I guess you would be correct if you were a liberal gun hating person that never touched one. I had a boss like that. Until she was approached one day while jogging. Scared her senseless. Then she went and bought a gun. Now for you to say that I have a far greater chance of taking my own life, then you do not know me or the 99% of the other responsible gun owners who practice safety all the time. Hopefully you will never be in a position were you need one. If you are, hopefully I or some one like me who cares will be there to save you from being maimed or murdered.

He's from California. They aren't too gun savy in that state.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

you're really missing the boat. i never once indicated i was talking about buying dinner.

just because someone is making a commotion about some firearm that does not mean i'm not going to buy said firearm.

Stop being insulting, I didn't "miss" anything. You're playing down the fact that these weapons were used to kill innocent people.

if you can't justify one, don't buy one. i don't let other people's opinions drive what i'm going to buy or not buy.

This is totally irrelevant to what I said. There is no reason to own one, just because "you want to" and "other people's opinions drive what i'm going to buy or not buy" isn't a valid argument. These weapons were used to kill people and they shouldn't be allowed for this exact reason. There is no justification to own them.

Lets see, "these weapons", so you would ban AR-15s, Remington 870's, and Glock hand guns. Maybe thats the reason gun control advocates never get anywhere. Even during the Assault Weapons Ban, the AR-15 was legal to own/sell.

Verifiable statistics overwhelm bravado every time.

Jogging alone is one of those instances when personal protection makes total sense, but for most people in most situations, a gun is not the most effective or logistically feasible method of self protection, like sitting in a crowded restaurant or movie theater. That is if you have any concern for the safety of others.

you're taking what i'm saying and talking about buying dinner. who's being insulting?

you say i'm playing down facts about these firearms. as for these weapons being used to kill innocent people, that's an emotional argument as any firearm can kill someone. these just happen to be the firearm of choice for nutjobs who really have no clue what they are doing because there's a lot of hype about them.

check out how well that 100 round drum magazine functioned:

http://news.yahoo.com/ap-source-assault-rifle-jammed-colo-attack-121634899.html

there's a reason why the military doesn't use that magazine design - and this article spells it out. i don't and won't own one myself because i know they are unreliable and they are not good for the magazine release on the firearm.

This is totally irrelevant to what I said. There is no reason to own one, just because "you want to" and "other people's opinions drive what i'm going to buy or not buy" isn't a valid argument. "there's no reason to own one" - talk about what's not a valid argument! that is opinion only on your part. what you or anyone else makes an emotional appeal about won't affect my choices in firearms, it's that simple. i'll make my choices based on need and research.

ever researched the ar-15? the 5.56 round is essentially a varmit round that's been adapted for military purposes. that's just marginally larger than the average .22 rifle. it's tiny compared to my trusty 30-06 or 30-30. and yes, you can find 30-06 and .270 (both bigger rounds) in semi auto, just like the ar-15.

now you think they are dangerous or whatever, fine, then don't own one, i respect your choice in that. that does not mean no one else can have one because your opinion is they shouldn't be owned, nor does it mean that those who do own one should get rid of their ar-15 because of your opinion.

Go into one of the more popular restaurants, let the host seat you and then eyeball the entrance (assuming that a shooter would enter there) and see if you have a clean shot in that direction without the risk of shooting anyone else. The sobering reality is that anyone determined to go on a shooting rampage in a place like that can do so and even if you are packing, you won't have much of a chance of stopping them. So what is the best method of protection? By supporting the Brady bill. Mandatory background checks, wait times, alerting the ATF and tracking large ammunition purchases, mental health records checked. Beyond that, wear a bullet proof vest and support efforts to hire and maintain enough law enforcement to be able to respond to crisis quickly.

The shooter in Aurora was wearing body armor. Can you articulate just how you would have even had a reasonable chance of stopping him in spite of being blinded by tear gas and do so without shooting anyone else? I support CCW laws, but the fact is a gun is not going to protect you in all situations. For those who are not risk takers, may I suggest you keep yourself holed up in your man cave, don't let your wife outside either, or perhaps invest the same amount of time and energy into other forms of personal protection that you spend on your fetish with phallic objects that shoot projectiles.

There is more to self defense than just having a loaded firearm at the time.

true, but there sure isn't much self defense when not having a firearm.
