Question about SSN

Hi all, hope you can help me out with this one:

I just recieved my SSN and I'm very happy ofcourse, but the thing is that part of my name is not on the card and I'm not really sure what to do.... let me see how I can explain it, for instance like the name LuAnn Anderson >> and the card only says Lu Anderson. Is that very wrong and do I need to change it?? I did and have always written my whole name on everything, and I always write my whole first name it at the FIRST NAME boxes and never use the MIDDLE NAME boxes.

If I do go to an office and change it, do any of you know how long it will take before I get a new one??

And can I still use the number for getting a drivers license and job while it is being corrected??

Has this happened to any of you before??? :help:

Timeline:

January 27 2006: submitted and approved I-130 in Copenhagen, Denmark

March 23 2006: Interview, submitted I-601 waiver

May 2 2006: London recieves waiver

August 21 2006: waiver approved woo hoo

October 3 2006: arrived in the US

You only need to change it if you don't want to work and/or file your taxes with that name. Plus most states now compare the driver's license application info against the SSN record, so your driver's license will probably have to have the name like that as well.

I assume you used your I-551 card as your idenity document and proof of work authorization. If you did use the I-551 card is your name spelled the way you want it on your SSN card?

You just need to go back to the SSA office and explain to them the problem and reapply. In this case they will want the card back since you are saying the name is spelled incorrectly. SSA offices normally keep applications on file in the office for 30 days after being processed. If it's been less than 30 days have them pull out the application and see how it's spelled on the application.

Now the time to get another card is going to depend on how your name is entered in SAVE. If it's spelled the way you want it on the card allowing for one letter to be incorrect and matches you work authorization document, then no problem and you should have new card in a couple weeks.

Now if it's not correct in SAVE and they need to send a Form G-845 to verify your status that could take weeks and in some cases months.
