I also bring back a suitcase filled with his stuff everytime I return. I also shipped a box with Mexicana which was not very expensive compared to DHL, Fed Ex, etc.

Marco has nicer electronics than I do and a bunch of amps for his bass. We've been contemplating renting a truck and driving up together from Mexico City but even that seems nearly impossilbe!!!

You guys be careful with any cd's he brings over that aren't originals - piracy issues.

Driving from Mexico City sounds tough. Be careful if you go that route.

very funny you say that. Nearly everything he owns (as far as tons of CDs and Vinyl are concerned) are imports from the US. In fact, for the past 4 months he's been ordering stuff and just having it sent to my place, as he'll be here to get it soon. So I guess he'll be returning everything to the US :)

one more question. The D-156K says it has to be filled out online, but I can only find the DS-156. This is probably covered in a thread somewhere, but I can't find it. Which one are we supposed to fill out?

Fill out whatever the CDJ site says you need to fill out - I think it's both. K1s are technically non-immigrant visas that's why it's required. Make sure the online one is done online so it generate the barcode.

Use the email for visas: cdjimmigrantvisas@state.gov

(American Citizen Services is for US Citizens living in Mexico who need the assistance of the consulate)

And know the chances are 50-50 that you will get an accurate, timely response.

Holy Moses! I sent an email yesterday morning to the CJ embassy, and they emailed me back by 6pm!

So what is the dress code for the Visa appointment? Regular clothes ok or more on the dressy side? Also, what is the deal about traveling with the K visa? If we return to Mx for a visit, how does he get back into the US? Or, do we have to wait until we file the AOS stuff?

well that is a record for email response from CDJ. Hope you got news you needed.

You will see much variation in dress code at consulate. I literally saw people in sweat pants. I told Leo to dress in nice slacks and nice button down. It is important day so I figure you should be dressed nice. However you will see people wearing jeans, etc.

The K1 visa is a ONE-WAY ticket to USA. You cannot leave and reenter on a K1 visa. You will have to wait till greencard arrives or apply for AP to travel while you wait for greencard. DO NOT LEAVE USA ON K1. You will have to start all over again.

I thought the K-1 was a one time entry thing. So approx. how long does it take to get the greencard? Any one else have experience with this? We are planning the wedding in Mexico in early April 08, which is 9 months from our "expected" arrival into the US on the K1 (assuming all goes well, of course). Is this too soon?

You can file your AOS after you are married in USA. Hard to say average time to get greencard. Some people 4 to 6 months - others years due to being stuck in namecheck issues. When you apply for AOS, also apply for Advanced Parole (AP) which is extra money but at least you will be able to travel to Mexico if need be before you get greencard. You when apply for AP they ask you specific dates to travel, etc

Monica, you should take the time to read the guides and the information on the travel.state.gov site to be sure you understand the steps in the process and the restrictions to avoid any confusion and problems, especially with timing for work authorization, green card and travel permission.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...2994.html#Leave

Can a K-1 Visa Holder Leave the United States?

The K-1 visa allows a fiancé(e) to enter the United States one time only. If you leave the United States after entering on a K-1 visa, you may not re-enter on the same visa. If you want to leave and re-enter the United States, you should apply with Form I-131 Application for Travel Document to the USCIS office that serves the area where you live for advance parole to return to the United States. See Emergency Travel for information on how to get a travel document that allows you to return to the United States.

This was posted today on immigrate2us.net

Here's a link to a copy of the chat. http://immigrate2us.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15049

It was part of the on line chat with Laurel Scott

This is the quote from Warren Janssen, the Officer-in-Charge of the USCIS Cd. Juarez office.

"We're still working on a comprehensive plan to clean up all of the backlogged waivers within 90-120 days after we begin the project. Additional clerks are here now preparing the waivers to be ready when adjudicating officers arrive for the blitz. I don't have a starting time for this at this time. "

Finally some good news.

Pat
