Juarez Consulate

Like KitKat says, you really need to assure yourself of the taxi rates before you get in. The Juarez airport is quite a distance away from the CJC. The Consulate itself is actually pretty close to the bridge (a few miles). There is a lot of shopping around. Most hotels in the area (those close to CJC), are in or around The Pronaf which a tourist area. Coming in from El Paso, the airport is about a 15 minutes from the border. If you are unfamiliar to the area, it is a good idea to get a shuttle to Juarez. You really shouldn't walking around with any luggage. There are several international bridges in El Paso, you DON'T want to go to the downtown, Santa Teresa, or Zaragosa bridges. The consulate is close to the main bridge (Paso del Norte). Most people just know it as the main bridge. It is close to the CHamizal park on both sides, but is too far to walk over unless you take a taxi as soon as you are on the Juarez side.

It is very crowded and traffic is horrible. So it is best not to attempt to drive over yourself in a rental car. If you need any info. on the El Paso side, I can help.

My fiance will need to have a waiver but I am planning on going for his interview anyways. It will give me a chance to see him. My parents and brothers, sister and her boyfriend are also going with to celebrate an early Christmas with him :) Juarez is only about 4 1/2 hours away and it would be cheaper for us to drive there instead of getting 7 plane tickets. I have a beat up van that we were going to take because I don't care if anything happens to it. I drove it in Mexicali and we were fine but I've never been to Juarez. Would it be safe to take my van or should we just find a taxi?

Wow waiting, it's great that your family is doing that! I guess he'll have a pretty good answer if they ask the question: how does her family feel about your relationship? ;)

My future mother in law contacted her senator several times for us when our application was stuck in CSC limbo, but I'm not sure I can use that in my interview :P

Happy Halloween Amigas! Me and my barking dog are giving out lots of candy tonight. I'm glad it keeps my mind off Visa stuff - well I guess not since I'm on visajourney.

How did everyone meet their fiances'? Just curious to hear your stories if you want to share. It puts a smile on my face to think about it. Leo and I met in 2002 while I was vacationing in Acapulco. I went same time every year and our friendship grew. Thanksgiving 2004 marks day we knew we were in love and our relationship began. Leo currently lives in state of Sonora - Northern Mexico and I live in TN. We are both right around 30 years old.

Hope everyone enjoys their Halloween! Tomorrow begins a new month and 1 day closer to all of us getting our fiance's here.

My aunt, who specializes in Mexican history and literature, basically set us up. After we started talking on the phone, we had an instant connection...the rest is history. My honey lives in the DF. We haven't seen each in over two months...probably not as long as some of you have been separated, but it seems like way too much time. I felt so happy changing the calendar this morning!

Allie it's good to hear you in good spirits!!!

My fiance lives in D.F. too. We met when I was there on a business trip and spent about a week together. Two of my friends came to spend the weekend with me so the four of us spent it together. I ended up going back again with a co-worker just a few weeks later. Then he came here shortly thereafter to visit me, but he ended up staying for a long time hence the need for the visa overstay waiver. But it was worth it - that time together is how we knew we wanted to be together forever! I've been lucky that I've been able to go see him in DF 5 times so far this year and if I can work it out, I'll spend another month or so again shortly. I feel like half my life is in Mexico City (my better half) and the other half here . . . and during this wait time I would much rather be there with him!

Hi,

I think you can drive your van over. Your american insurance is also valid in border cities. The consulate is actually very close, so you should be fine.

Hi, we met at work. I was working and he was working with a subcontractor. We saw eachother everyday for a week before, I got the nerve to say hello. After that, he approached me and asked me for my number. Ever since that day we were together. He was here on a work visa so even lived together for 3 months. It was heartbreaking to see him leave, but we knew he had to. He too lives in Sonora (Hermosillo), lucky for me it is only a 5 and half hour drive so we see each other every other weekend. Even still, it is very hard leaving. The funny thing is that I am 43 and he is 27. WHen we met, we didn't see any age difference, and we surely don't see it now. We have been together now for almost 2 years.

My fiance and I met through work. We were assigned to the same project -but he was working at the corporate offices in Michigan and I was at the manufacturing plant. We were the only single members of the project team so it was usually just him and me going out to dinner after work whenever he came here or I went up there for team meetings. It was really nice since we could call each other everyday for free -company had an internal phone network connecting plant and corporate offices :P and we also got to see each other pretty often because of work :D I left the company a few years back, and since then our relationship got stronger. This year we finally decided we were ready for the "big step"..... and it's funny but since then, we've been feeling soo much in love with each other that it feels like we had just met and fallen in love with each other for the first time -even when it's been over 10 years since we first started dating

I've also been lucky like KK, he's been able to schedule business trips down here pretty often, and I've been up there twice already this year for 5-6 weeks at a time. And now I'm getting ready to fly up there on Monday -can't wait for it!!- to spend the next 6 weeks with him. I'm hoping this will be my last "visit" and that next time I'll be flying to our "home" :)

Thanks KK and Waiting. Initially I was so nervous about our age difference, but here on VJ I have seen many men that have even larger age differences getting approved. I feel much better, and I do know that age really is a number. WE are so compatible and in love that I no longer even think about it. :)

How cute, I loved reading about all of your stories about how you met your fiancés. Here goes mine . . .

I met my fiancé during the summertime of 1999. I was visiting my mother’s family in the state of Jalisco (my grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc). It was just a fun vacation since I hadn’t gone down to Mexico for like 3 years. Well, on this trip, I met Juan and we became friends. I came back to L.A. and he stayed in Mexico. He would call me all the time when I was back in the U.S. but we were just friends. I went down again to Mexico during the summertime of 2000 to “visit my family,” but I really wanted to go see him again. Well, we became a couple, but only stayed together for about a month and a half, then we broke up. I said to myself, “you must be crazy to begin a long-distance relationship, it will never work out.” Also, I was beginning college and I thought, I am going to meet so many guys in school that I really don’t want to have a boyfriend, especially one who is hundreds of miles away. So we ended it. But then I came back to the U.S. and could not stop thinking about him, seriously I couldn’t. So then I went back during the summer of 2001, and that’s when we began a relationship once again (and this time we didn’t end it). We have been together ever since this visit. I have gone every summer since then from 2001 through 2006 and have stayed for 2-3 months on each visit. It has been soooooo hard, but we truly love each other. My fiancé doesn’t have a valid work visa or student visa of any sort to come visit me :( so I have to be the one to go down to Mexico to visit. That’s the end of my love story. :D

Hey Chicas,

I thought I would share my experience with a phone call to USCIS today. First of all 2 days ago CDJ responded to an email stating case sent to DHS day of his interview Aug 2 (for fingerprint clearance). Although I'm not 100% convinced that it is the case - always tell me different things everytime I send an email inquiry. Anyways I also emailed NVC to see if they got our case back. NVC advised me today that if case was sent back would go back to California Service Center. So I called USCIS 800#. I talked to a nice lady after waiting maybe 1 minute- explained situation - and she transferred me to a supervisor. I waited 55 minutes - on hold. I explained situation to supervisor. She advised if it was sent back to DHS they would show receipt in their computer and they don't show receipt of course. So she is sending an inquiry to an officer at CDJ to see what is going on and for me to wait 30 days for a response either by email or phone.

I'm just glad I've decided to pursue this and not just sit back and wait anymore.

Hopefully some needed good news will come by way soon. Both ladies were extremely nice on phone and wished me good luck to getting Leo here quickly.
