looking forward to something...ansiando

estoy ansiando que llegue mi novio

:)

just like spanish has some great words that can't be translated, so English. I mean, what do they call a wife beater in Spanish? And why doesn't bowl really have its own word?

every language has its own nuances, that's what makes them so fun to learn :)

The problem I have with using "ansiando" is it can be construed as "anxious" -- looking forward to in a bad way that's why I use "emocionada" but it's still not the same! OK the bowl thing - drives me crazy.

As far as I know a "tuerto" was born with two eyes and later lost one of them, I might be wrong though

I can't think of a word or Phrase that could be used the same way as "look forward to", but in the sentence you wrote about your fiance I would say " Ya quiero que llegue mi novio!", so when you say "I'm really looking forward to see you" I'd say "ya quiero verte!" or something like that.

mmmmm I'm not sure "ansiando" is actually a word in spanish, but then again I might be wrong

"what do they call a wife beater in Spanish?" I would personally call him a "pelado abusivo"

"bowl"? you mean like in "plato/tazón"?

I meant wife beater, like the shirt. And you see my point about bowl, there isn't one actual word for it. My grandma always said bol. :) And ansiando is certainly a word! We use it all the time.

Or maybe we just use it in Mexico City.

Whatever the case, languages are living. They change, evolve, grow....

love them!

So it remains imposible to "look forward to" something in Spanish?

Oh yeah, bowl too! Fortunately, there hasn`t been any confusion over that one for me because most of the Spanish-speaking households I`ve spent any time in don`t really have any "platos" that I wouldn`t call a bowl, so one plato is as good as the next!

TJH, are you a "pocha"?

I stand corrected, "ansiando" is certainly a word in Spanish :) I searched for it on the Diccionario de la Real Academia de la Lengua and I found it :)

Ooops my bad about the "wife beater" thing, I don't think I ever heard that phrase before used for T-Shirts

"Whatever the case, languages are living. They change, evolve, grow...."

That is certainly true

Actually the first pharagraph of the "Diccionario de la lengua española" (which by the way is one of the main authorities when it comes to correct Spanish) is : "Las lenguas cambian de continuo, y lo hacen de modo especial en su componente léxico. Por ello los diccionarios nunca están terminados: son una obra viva que se esfuerza en reflejar la evolución registrando nuevas formas y atendiendo a las mutaciones de significado.

TJH, are you a "pocha"?

no, I'm not a 'Pocha', I'm part Mexican on my mom's side, and my mom and grandma went to great lengths to make sure we'd know how to read, write and speak her language. It's always really funny the way people ASSume things about me because of the way I look. But you know what they say about assuming :)

ah and be careful who you call a pocha, as some of us could forseeably get offended. (I won't this time, as I don't think there was any harm intended, but my mom would certainly have a FIT!)

and as much as the real academia likes to think that they still have some control over the ebb and flow of our language, Iberian Spanish is stagnating. They can fight the evolution of Spanish as much as they want, but Spanish-American words are still working their way into our everyday speech, like it or not. I for one don't let the Real Academia dictate what is Spanish and what isn't. I think they're quite outdated.

I don't mean to be combative, I'm just really enthusiastic about language and all of its nuances.

No, I didn`t intend to be offensive and thank you for the warning. I didn`t know it had a bad side or I wouldn`t have put it that way. I`m sorry, but good thing I know about it now.

It has been a long time since I posted anything on this forum.....Louisa I also wish that more people waiting for their waivers to be approved were on this site rather than I2US. I have a lot of trouble posting and even opening that site. But, there are several of us that are waiting out the waiver approval process through Juarez here......Good luck!

Also, to those who had questions about the medical exam. They didn't do anything "too intrusive" to my fiance. They did inspect his private area, but left his rear end alone!!! hhahaahahahahah He would have died if they tried to go there!

Also, they did ask several questions about his tattoos and made him pee in a cup because of them. I guess they assumed that tattoos=drugs.....

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and I hope all that are waiting have speedy approvals and that their loved ones are home soon..... :)

I-601 waiver is granted to waive a ban on entry due to hardship that it would impose on a USC. A lot of people get three or ten year bans for illegal presence or "crimes involving moral turpitude" (what ever that means) and his/her spouse files a waiver along with a letter and supporting evidence explaining that it would cause extreme hardship to the USC to A) leave the country for X years, or B) live without his/her spouse for the length of the ban. If the waiver is approved, the one with the ban gets to come to the US.

What do the first and second NOAs mean? When they send the second, does it mean your visa approved? Approved pending interview results? Judging from your timelines, it looks like it comes just about at the end of the road. Congratulations, Mfarmer.

EDIT: I don`t know why therer`s a happy face in the part about living without your spouse- I didn`t put it there, I swear! Anyway, now I`m in edit and I don`t see it, so I guess it just has to stay. Sorry, Lupita.
