Yeah kitkat,

My fiance was also told that the guy at window #27 is really mean and doesn't like giving out visas. He told me that as he waited to be called for his interview, he was talking to people there who were also waiting. He said that a guy waiting told him that the CO in window #27 is terrible. Then they called Juan's name and told him to go to window 27. At this point, Juan just looked at the guy and kind of laughed, but then had to walk to the window and be interviewed. But he said that the CO didn't seem that bad. Luckily he did get it though.

Oh yeah kitkat, I still have a message saved that I sent to you like in May asking if it was possible to get a tourist visa for my fiance to come here, rather than take the k1 route. My, how much I have learned since then.

I'm just trying to figure out the less expensive hotel that bebe had to stay in around the corner. I remember her saying it was something like $39 and they moved to it cuz they had to stay a lot longer than they expected because of the consulate being closed. I searched... but was not finding it.

Thanks for the details cutie... helpful indeed.

Thanks for the details Cutie!

Now I'm worried... They took your birth certificate and didn't return it? I was born in Poland, and if they take my original birth certificate, I doubt I could get another one. What's worse, my proof of citizenship is my Naturalization Certificate and they absolutely cannot take that one away from me!!! I gave it to my fiance to show the original since we submitted a copy with the petition, but I don't know how to make sure that they don't take it!? :o

So the consul didn't have a problem with you not going and just sending a letter explaining why? That's what I think I will do. I'm starting to get really nervous about our interview and of course about the packet getting here in time!! - Agnieszka

Just make sure your fiance has the original of your birth certificate and a copy - if they want to keep one, he can explain that they can only keep the copy. The birth certificate of the US citizen is NOT a requirement at the interview so they should not have any reason to keep it - your US citizenship was already proven when the I-129F was approved. If he has a problem, he can simply ask to speak to a supervisor and explain why they cannot keep it.

Also, the CDJ policy is that USC fiances are not allowed at the interview. That doesn't mean they don't have the gall to ask about your whereabouts, but your fiance can simply explain that you are aware of the policy and therefore did not go. If you are really concerned, print out a letter for him to take like Cutie and I did.

The other thing you can do to make sure they don't keep any of the certificates is to have your fiance take them in a separate folder/bag so they don't see them unless they ask for it. The reason I say this is that, from my experience, when you go to the first window where they take the documents from you (and pictures, payment receipt, forms, etc.) if they see that you have more documents in the folder where you took the documents you gave them they tell you to give them all to them, even if you gave them the ones they list on the packet already. I thought something like that might happen when I had my interview, so I only had the documents listed on the packet plus 3 of my fiance's paystubs and a copy of my passport on the folder I took with me to the window (I had the rest of the documents, evidence of relationship, etc. in a computer bag I took with me). I didn't give her the paystubs and the copy of my passport initially, but when she saw more papers in the folder she said "give me everything you have" so I did. She just gave me the copy of my passport back plus the last page of the DS-156 form with the list of my past visas and visits to the US.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hello all... any thoughts as to weather it would be better for Chicago to be POE or Phoenix? We can find flights for both but don't know weather we should push for Chicago as better as that is where i will picking up Uriel.

If you are picking him in Chicago and he can fly direct, just make Chicago the POE. It's fairly straightforward there. I recently had a nice chat with "Jonesy" at the POE in Chicago about K1 entries and he said they are a snap there - no going to a separate room or anything, just a cursory review of the paperwork and a reminder to get married within 90 days.

Thanks for all the suggestions regarding my Naturalization Certificate!!

Any comments about the Dallas or Houston airports as POEs? Most connecting flights to Indianapolis are through there, but we could look for some other flights if those are not good POEs. How can I find out if they give work authorization at those POEs?

I hope my packet arrives tomorrow! Anyone else planning to go to CDJ the week of Feb. 12th besides Kristen, Cassandra, and my fiance?

Good luck Danielle!

AgRo, these days only JFK give the temp. work authorization. Dallas most likely means a terminal change so he should plan on lots of time between flights. Can't remember in Houston.

So if we can't find a direct flight to Chicago and the POE ends up being Phoenix does anyone have any thoughts about that?

Let me know

Hey girls... Well, Efrain and I decided to go to Juarez Feb 25 to be there for the appointments and stuff on monday and Tuesday. We were thinking about going on the 11th, but I couldn't get that week off from work, so we are going a little later. It's hard to believe that it's almost our time tobe together forever! I am so excited. Is anyone else going then?

We are planning on crossing into El paso and taking a flight to San Diego from there, so I guess we are stuck with whatever long wait we get. I am sure that it woudn't be any better in San Diego since that is a border town just like El Paso is. I wish I knew about the other POE's for you guys, but I don't. I hope you find one that's fast and worry free! B)

Have a great week ladies! and GOOD LUCK DANIELLE AND URIEL!

Agnie,

Don’t worry about them taking your birth certificate at CDJ. I think it was my fiance’s fault that they took mine from him because he handed out all the forms to them. He had my original birth certificate together with all the other forms they need for sure (DS-156, DS-156K, financial information). It could have also been my fault since I did make Juan pretty nervous, telling him all kinds of things. I didn’t really care though because I just got a copy of it at my local registrar’s office, and it’s fairly easy to get another one. So, don’t worry too much about that.

Danielle,

I don’t know if it’s too late about the hotel you were asking about. I believe it’s the HOTEL MONACO and it’s a short taxi ride from the consulate.

We decided to look for another more affordable hotel for the remainder of our stay till Monday. I found one called El Monaco for $350 pesos a night. It is about 3 blocks away and nice.

Hi Danielle,

Yes the hotel we stayed at was the Hotel Monaco. It is within walking distance or a very short taxi ride. It is on the corner of "El Triunfo de la Republica" and Lopez Mateos. There is a shopping mall directly across the steet. It is about 3 - 4 blocks away. It was also pretty safe. I drove and parked the car there in their parking space. It has a guard. It is not fancy or anything, but it was decent. I wouldn't recommend the food there. A family member told me about the hotel so it turned out for the best. They charge you on a daily basis and if you pay in advance they gave us a discount. I don't recall exactly how much though, but since we stayed 5 days it came out to about $30/night.

Good luck to all who are headed that way! They also took my birth certificate, but I think he just handed everything! The funny thing was they didn't take any financial documents (which turned out for the best now I filed the AOS).

Again, GOOD LUCK!! :)
