I know what you mean, we were in the same situation since my fiance just changed jobs and didn't think he could come with me in any other date. But he might be able to take just one day off, so we are planning to go to the consulate on Friday the 5th, that way he would fly thursday afternoon after work - and that day I'd go to the medical- and fly back on Saturday.

I just realized that Jamie's fiance will be going to CDJ on that week too now, I hope everything works out great for all of you guys!

Hi Everyone -

A quick question.... my honey is finally getting around to packing some stuff for the big move here. He has five square boxes of books that he wants to ship...I have a DHL account but am wondering if anyone has experience with a cheaper shipping option - there is no urgency as far as when they arrive - but he needs to ship them this week or right after the New Year as we are going to CDJ on 01/07. thanks

I used DHL to ship books from Mexico to the US years ago and it worked out very well. Not sure if there is anything cheaper that would still be safe.

Well I'm back in the good ol' USA! It was great seeing Oliver but it made me miss him sooooo much more now!!! We were talking and as soon as he files his waiver I think we will be moving to Juarez until he gets his Visa! I think that would be best because I could commute to El Paso to work and he could definately find a job there. I don't think I could go 10 months without being with him!!! If I didn't have my family with me in Juarez I probably would of ended up staying hehe

Jamie glad you made it back. I know what you mean about missing him. If you decide to move to El Paso, it is a nice place to live. As you may recall, I was born and raised there. I miss it terribly. The people are friendly and it is a veeeerrrrrrrryyyyyyy safe city. The cost of living is much better than Arizona also. If you need any help let me know. I can help you with info. on the city. Once again, we're happy you saw your honey.

Update: Our wedding is on Sunday. We decided it would be appropriate that we get married on Christmas Eve. Thank you for your support!!! I will keep you posted with the AOS.

Hi girls,

I am getting ready to send all the paperwork to my fiancé, but I’m not sure what method to use. I was wondering if any of you have sent stuff to Mexico. I’ve never really used expedited mailing options, so I’m not sure. Back in the old days, when I sent letters to my fiancé, I used regular airmail, so that’s why I’m not too sure what options are best for quicker service.

I’ve looked it up on the usps website. It seems that the best option is either Global Express mail or Global Express Guaranteed. I was leaning towards Global Express, but then came across this on their website, it says: Mexico (Service is limited to Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey). So, I’m wondering if this means that they will only deliver to these destinations. My fiancé is currently in a small pueblo about an hour away from Guadalajara, but he is not living in GDL. What do you girls think?

Do any of you recommend a specific mailing option to mail something to Mexico? I wish I had the money to buy an airline ticket and just hand deliver the papers to my fiancé.

Hola Chicas!

Days get longer and longer closer I get to pickup date. Hard to concentrate on anything else. We are very excited for 1/11 to get here.

UCLA - I hand delivered mine to Leo. I would definitely pick a route that you can track it and they guarantee delivery. I sent a couple of letters to Leo by regular mail when we first started dating and half of them didn't get there/got lost. Does your fiance have access to computer/printer? You can probably scan him most of the stuff. I'm sure someone else has suggestions for you on which carrier to use.

I just really wanted to say hello and hope everyone is having a Happy Holidays!

UCLA - I agree. I'd be surprised if Fed Ex or UPS cannot deliver there, but the safest thing to do is scan each document and email it to him. He can print it them out at an internet cafe if need be.

Allie, hang in there - not much longer!!!

Hi ucla-

I sent the paperwork via DHL - I had used them before to send documents to him - he lives in el DF but I think DHL is famous for delivering everywhere. I used them once to send some documents to a small city in Lebanon once. You can track the whole process onlne too. The only thing that I would warn you about is this- Raul asked me to send a TOEFL book too..mistake! The package got stuck in customs there for about 4 days because I wrote on the customs declaration form that it was documents - none dutiable. It was dutiable because it was a book. So just make sure you fill the forms out correctly. The customer service people are good at DHL - if you have any questions about what forms to fill out and how to fill them out. Check out their website..no, I don't work for DHL - in fact, I hated them after those documents got stuck in customs - I was freaking out thinking out all my personal and original documents being lost. In the end, everything worked out and he got the documents. Now, I am trying to figure out how to get all of his books shipped here. Someone suggested DHL so I guess I'll just stick with them.

Hi again everyone!

Well my fiancee and I are completing the DS-156 now, and I think we are all set.

We plan to arrive in Juarez on the 26th, go to the medical exam on the 27th, the consulate on the 28th and fly back to Mexico City on the 29th.

I'm keeping my fingers (and other body parts) crossed!

Thanks to everyone on VJ, I'm feeling pretty confident that we will finally get the visa.

GOOD LUCK

~Chris

My fiancee needs to get her affairs in order before she can fly here.

Does she absolutely need to provide a date when she will come to the USA on the DS-156?

OOPS NEVER MIND

I see now it says "provide specific date if known"

ucla, I think you'll be safe with DHL or Fed Ex, I'm not sure UPS delivers to small towns but I'm pretty sure those two would.

Well friends, I'm getting ready to fly back home in a few more hours. I can't believe how fast time went!!!! I have mixed feelings about leaving you know, I miss my family and I really want to see them, but at the same time I don't want to be apart from him anymore :( It's just getting harder and harder every time, I'm getting soo used to being with him already :crying:

I have a couple more questions as I am finalize everything...

Does CDJ want to see all this stuff packaged in a certain way, with ACCO fasteners and all that stuff like CSC wants?

Also the instructions are a bit confusing, because in my packet CDJ sent me a blank DS-156 and a blank DS-156K entirely in Spanish. So we know that the CDJ website says the EVAF DS-156 has to be completed online and whether you complete it in English or Spanish, it prints out in English (which is what the instructions at the State Dept indicate).

I feel sorry for the people who don't know about this and perhaps don't even own a computer and show up only with the form in the packet!

Also we noticed that the DS-156K example on VJ is different than the one in the packet (which matches the CDJ website).

So my fiancee and I are completing every different possible version of every form in English and Spanish in triplicate. I know that may be overkill, but I don't want to leave anything to chance.

Thanks again everyone for all your help!
