Thank you. The reason why I am concerned is because I jumped the gun and booked a flight to Cuidad Juarez on 09/19/10. I just want to find out if they have it and when they send packet 3 out with the invitation letter. I did not want to book the flight last minute because it would be more expensive.

Just so you're not expecting something else .... the invitation letter IS packet 3. A single sheet of paper. It will just tell you to go here http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/fianceforms.html , download and complete the forms, and show up when you are ready.

BTW, I think your mid-sept date gives you plenty of time. Your letter should show up in a week or so.

I also booked the flight ahead of receiving the open appointment letter.

to this day my fiance hasn't received the packet 3 but she was able to interview in Juarez.

I received the single-sheet open appointment letter and made a copy for my fiance. She was able to use it for her medical exam. For the actual interview, she requested the original at the consulate prior to her interview.

As others have posted, you can download the packet and all the instructions via the cdj consulate website. The only thing material in the packet is your case number and the letter bearing the beneficiary's name.

Either way, you should begin collecting the info you need right away since your flight is creeping up.

Good luck to the both of you, I will be in CDJ 22-27

Thank you. I already printed all the forms and I am going to start filling out every thing I can. The only thing I am a little worried about is the proof that she will not be a financial burden to the US. I have a salary in the mid forties, but I do not have money in the bank. Also, I am part owner of a two flat building. Do I have to have a letter from my employer or are the pay stubs enough proof?

I would advise you to get a letter too. Ive read that it is requested at the interview, in addition to 3 years of tax returns and at least 3 pay stubs.

I dont have much money in the bank either, your salary should suffice and if you have any investments or retirement accounts, print statements for those too because it will help.

Although it is not required, I filled out a I-134 Affidavit of Support with my petition. The interviewer took that form, 1 years tax return and pay stubs. I had mortgage statements, grant deeds, insurance, bank account information, bank account manager letters, and employer letter all ready for my fiancé to hand over but they didn't need it. I suggest to fill out an I-134. Its simple and just needs your signature no notary or anything.

Does anyone know if the NVC sends the visa packet by DHL to Cuidad Juarez? If so, does the NVC give you the DHL tracking number. I am trying to find out if Cuidad Juarez has my K1 visa petition. I called the Dept of Sate and the NVC and all they told me is that it was sent out to Cuidad Juarez on 07/26/10. It has been three weeks since they shipped it.

We are thinking about heading to CDJ that week as well, but our packet was only sent there by the NVC on 8/9/10, so our timeline is a little more tight than yours. I was able to get through to someone at the consulate today using my credit card, and they said that they received our packet on the same day (8/9/10 - sounds like someone is a little off on their dates, but whatever). I asked if they had mailed out our invitation letter yet and the man said that they had not, and that it could take anywhere from six to eight weeks. But, looking at VJ timelines, it seems like it is taking around four to six weeks from the time the consulate receives the packet for the letter to actually be received by the petitioner or beneficiary, so I think (hope) they are overstating things a bit. If they have received our packet by now then they surely have received yours, but the number that I was able to get through on was the (011 52 477-788-7070) line, and the man I spoke with was pretty polite and helpful. He did also take and confirm my address and phone number to put into their system, so I don't know if that would be another reason to try to get through to them.

Good luck!

I also called Cuidad Juarez on Monday using the $7 per call option and the lady told me that they received it on 07/26/10. This is the same date that the NVC told me they sent it to Cuidad Jurez. That is a little strange that both dates are the same. I just hope they send it out the invitation letter before 09/19/10.

My fiance will be going for his interview the week of Sept. 19th, and I was wondering, for those of you that went through the process already, what questions do they ask at the interview?

(There are a lot of pages to this thread. I have read through the best I can, and found some questions that were asked at interviews, but still wanted to ask to see if I could get even more info.)

Some of us have the same question so I am going to re-post it here in hopes that someone can help us out:

There seems to be some discrepancy as to whether or not the American fiance is allowed into the consulate for the interview. It seems based on some recent posts from K-1 interviews at the CDJ consulate that they are requesting that the American fiance come in for an interview (so it appears that they want us to be there also now), but I have read in some other posts of the American fiance waiting outside all day during the interview process. I am planning on being there, but I was 50/50 as to whether or not they were going to let me join my fiance for the interview.

I had thought that if they don't let me in, but then the interviewer wants to talk to me, I could always be outside waiting. But, due to the security situation, I did not want to be standing outside the consulate all day (I know cell phones are not allowed inside, so if my fiance needs to get in touch with me he would then have to go all the way back to the hotel to get me, and reports I have read say that people waiting outside of the consulate are in a very dangerous position as "soft targets" with all of the threatened car bombings-not so pleasant to think about). Also, I know that several other people are concerned because they are not in a position to join their fiances in CDJ for the interview, and they are worried that this may lead to a denial of the K-1 visa or a delay.

Does anyone have any clarification about this? Thanks in advance!

Hey TL Johnson,

We are in C. Juarez right now and though I can't tell you whether the fiances are allowed in, I do know that there is a big waiting room just down the block from the consulate where you can wait inside and as safe as possible. Also, there are lockers you can rent around the block to leave anything that can't go inside the consulate if need be.

Good luck

Laurel

The Juarez Consulate site still says this:

K-1 (Fiancé) and K-3 (Spouse) Visas

Steps to Obtaining a K Visa

Step 3: The Day of the Interview

Only visa applicants, the parents of child applicants, and those assisting the elderly or disabled will be allowed into the Consulate compound.

http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/k_step3.html

It is confusing now with people being asked to have the USC interviewed as well. However, other people have gone through recently too, and they were not asked for the USC to come in. So, maybe it is just a few people, for certain reasons in their cases, the CO might feel they need to speak with the USC.

@laurelbellante:: Please post back and let us know how the interview goes. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the information! I haven't heard that before. I guess that would really be no better than waiting back at the hotel, and the hotel is probably a safer bet anyway. The consensus is that I am probably not going to be let in, so I will just be ready for whatever. Boy is that ever hard for a bossy/stubborn Texas gal to take! haha

I have a question for those who had already gone to the interview at CDJ: It's about income taxes...As far as I know, they ask for taxes returns for the past 3 years. My fiancé thinks that he won't make more than 18,212 this year. Last year was incredibly well and he made much more than 18,212, 2008 wasn't a good year though. In a fex words, if he filed for the petition this year or the interview were before filing next year's tax return, only 2009,2008 and 2007 would be needed at the interview.

He's worried because he thinks this year won't be so good and somoeone told him that consulate pays attention to the most recent year, so if he filed the petition until next year it will be an issue because 2010, 2009 and 2008 tax returns will be needed. So we would have to wait until 2012!!

Is this true? Please, someone who could explain me? we both need to clear up those questions..

It seems that it would all depend on when your interview is. Someone else might be more knowledgeable about this, but if you have to file your taxes in April, as long as your interview was before April of 2011, his 2009 return would still be his most recent to show them. I think they ask you to bring transcripts from your last three years, but your prior years' return is likely going to be the most important. You said in another post that you might have trouble finding a co-sponsor, so I think that this might be an issue. It might be best to go ahead and file for the K-1 earlier if you can.

Anyone else that went through Juarez for a K-1 have this listed on their Visa? Is this about vaccinations?
