My fiance is there today too. I couldn't find anything on the C. Juarez website but get this:

We are doing K1/K2 (3 of them!). They went for the medical today and they told him only he could do the medical (k1) and then has to go for his visa interview tomorrow. Only if he gets the visa approved will the Consulate give him a letter to give to the Med. Office to have the k2's have their medicals and then return to the Consulate later this week for their interview.

Anyone ever have this happened? It kinda makes sense in case the K1 visa gets denied so as to not put out so much money for the K2 medicals and visas.

Thoughts?

No, Jrgauthier, I have never heard of that before. Good luck, too!

Know anything more Trueimage?

My fiance called about 45 minutes ago. Said that the interview went smoothly but everything took a long time, that there was a ton of people there. They asked about his kids and took their passports as well as his. After the interview they told him to go pay at DHL, never specifying that his visa was approved....but paying at DHL is a good thing, right?

Anyway, they said that the info for the kids to get their medical would be in the packet at DHL so I told him to call as often as he can to see if it had come in.

Then the kids have to do their medical (two are 15 and under so they'll take longer) and then interview with them. This is going to be a 2 week process all said and done! Luckily he is staying with family and not racking up hotel bills.

I'm relieved but won't be content until he has his hands on his visa!

We don't have our interview date yet, but I am trying to get everything figured out regarding paperwork and also transportation before the time comes. What we are planning on doing is meeting in Mexico City (both of us will have layovers there if the flight works out right) and then taking the same flight to Ciudad Juarez. Does anyone recommend a specific hotel? And do any of them have shuttles from the airport?

After we get the visa **thinking positively** we are still trying to decide what would be safest. What I would like to do is cross the border into El Paso and fly from there to Salt Lake City, because the flight from El Paso is about a quarter of the price of the flight from Ciudad Juarez. However, safety is a little bit more important for my wife and I right now, so basically what I am asking is if anyone else has done it like that, and is there a recommended way to get to the border? We are a little worried about all the news reports and everything that has been happening down there.

I still can't figure out why they don't allow another couple of consulates process this visa .. it seems a little silly to make us all go to one of the most dangerous cities in the world! Anyway, not that complaining on here will do anything about it :) So if anyone has any advice on any of the things that I mentioned I would appreciate it a lot! Thanks

I haven't heard from him yet so I am worried.

Congrats!!! Glad it went so smoothly!!! I hope to have a similar story to tell soon. I'm off to my daughter's wedding right now but if I hear from him I'll post when I get home.

Hi! Congrats on getting this far in the process and good luck at the interview. I was there about two weeks ago meeting my fiance for his interview. I took the greyhound from LA to El Paso ($55), crossed the border on foot around 9am and then grabbed a taxi to the US Consulate which is in a very different part of town. After the interview I hung out with my fiance until 6 pm and then took a taxi to the border and crossed back to El Paso, on foot around 7pm. My point is this. I'm a 29 year old female, and not once did I feel sketchy or even uncomfortable. I didn't hear any shooting nor see anything bad happen. I just saw people, families, students out and about like in any other city. I was expecting much worse, but instead found myself comfortably leaving my hotel (Holiday Inn Express) in the evening to walk to Carl's JR. or Starbucks. The part of town that the consulate is in is really new. There is a big mall and a Denny's and people walking around.

Hope that helps a little. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks! That actually does help a lot. I know that what we hear in the news doesn't happen all the time or in every part of the city, but it's still a little scary to think about it, but I imagine it won't be as bad as we are thinking it might be. The main part we are worried about is that our flights will get in around 8 or so at night and also when we travel from the consulate to the border, because it looks like it is a little bit far .. but I am sure it will be fine. Thanks for your reply!

Okay, so I won't begin to try to understand the Consulate anymore. So J had his interview Tuesday and was told to pay at DHL but they didn't keep his passport. They kept our three k2's passports instead. They told him that when the packet was ready at DHL (which it still isn't) it would contain his visa and the letter authorizing the kids to get their medicals done and return for interview. But how are they going to give him his visa if he still has his passport?

Second, he heard on a local Juarez channel that if they give you a blue sheet it meant problems. He said that there was a blue sheet that the Consular had but that he was just check marking things off of it and now he's paranoid and has me all paranoid. They never gave him a blue sheet though, just said they had all the documents they needed and gave him the paper to pay at DHL.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just frustrated that he didn't realize he still had his passport until this afternoon when the Consulate was closed and he couldn't get through by phone. And now we have to wait until Tuesday because Monday is a holiday.

The embassy is driving me insane really, I am going insane. Please read the following and you will understand why, I don't know what the hell to do??

Dear Ms V:

Thank you for your February 5, 2010 inquiry regarding the immigrant visa case of XXXXX (CDJ--------). On June 6, 2007, a consular officer found Mr XXXX to be ineligible for visa issuance under section 212(a)(1)(A)(iv) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Under this section of law, any individual who is determined in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to be a drug abuser or addict is ineligible for visa issuance. There is no waiver available for this ineligibility. A panel physician/psychologist at that time determined that Mr XXXX had a Class A medical condition for drug abuse in accordance with the standards prescribed by the U.S. Public Health Service’s technical manual for the examination of aliens. The doctor who conducted the exam determined that his use of drugs was more than experimentation. The panel physician alone makes the determination of Class A ineligibility based on medical tests and the applicant’s own statements. To overcome this ineligibility, Mr XXXX had to demonstrate that he had entered remission by remaining drug-free for at least three years from his last drug use, which was determined to be December 2006.

Mr XXXX returned on to the same panel physician on February 2, 2010. Mr XXXXX was unable to demonstrate that he has entered remission to the panel physician. Mr XX made statements to the panel physician which contradicted his exam conducted in 2007. The panel physician has therefore recommended that Mr XX

return for a medical re-evaluation in six months. The panel physician also recommended that Mr C ld undertake a Narcotic or Alcoholics Anonymous program in order to maintain sobriety and learn relapsed prevention strategies and/or attend individual counseling oriented to adaptive behaviour.

My reply to this correspondence was:

X was banned for 3 years for using marijuana once in December of 2006. We served our 3 year ban and X came to the interview with proof of rehabilitation. However, the psychologist put it bluntly to him that "any proof of rehabilitation is bullshit (verbatim) and that neither HE NOR THE CONSULATE would take his proof of rehabilitation into consideration” for his visa therefore REFUSING to inspect his documentation of rehabilitation. The psychologist also added that it was ONLY HIS medical opinion that mattered to the consulate. It has been determined that X received his ban due to smoking marijuana once in Dec of 2006. He served the 3 year ban and returned to the consulate with medical proof of rehabilitation however that proof of rehabilitation was REJECTED by the psychologist. The psychologist NEVER ONCE mentioned anything about obtaining further rehabilitation as your email indicated, that is untrue. Nor did the psychologist of 2007 recommend rehabilitation, we had to find that out on our own. Since the psychologist told my fiance that the consulate does not accept rehabilitation we concluded that the embassy preferred to do their own drug testing by being given the 221g form saying to come back in 6 months for another medical. If there were ANY DOUBTS about Edgar's drug use, he should have been delayed in Juarez to conduct a hair analysis as other applicants have been allowed to do to prove his clean status, but he was not, he was SENT AWAY with barely any information and NOT asked to present his proof of rehabilitation by the consular. The psychologist had already rejected the proof of rehabilitation my fiance had with him which consist of 2.5 years worth of clean urine tests taken every 3 months throughout the ban period. You requested the 3 year ban for the incident in December of 2006 and we complied. When we returned to provide rehabilitation documentation to the psychologist we were TURNED AWAY and lied to by the psychologist.

I would not expect an officer of the consulate such as this psychologist to use profanity while talking to my fiance by stating that his proof of rehabilitation is “bullshit“. Regardless of any discrepancy between what was said in 2007 and what is said now, the fact remains, the last time X did anything was December of 2006, the law says 3 years, not 10 years, X is 24 years old so if he experimented when he was 14 years old by succumbing to peer pressure that is beyond this matter and shouldn‘t be an issue. The mistake he made in December of 2006 was just that, a mistake. It is my request that this case be transferred to a senior consular for review immediately. X has proof of rehabilitation. We just need to know what to do next to arrange for the consulate to receive that documentation. I am hoping that the appt set for six months from now can be waived and have our visa issued to us so we can get married.
