Oops, sorry I didn't read your whole question.

The first 2 times I called it was a lady speaking in spanish and she updated all my info(I moved last month) and she verified the names and said that they were still processing the paperwork. She also said that they would send a letter to me when they have finished processing the paperwork. Finally the 3rd time I spoke to someone in English (my English is much better than my Spanish) and he said that they were still processing the paperwork and that they would notify my attorney when everything was done. He also said that it would take 4-6 weeks to process the paperwork. I asked if I could go to Juarez he said not until the they were done processing.

Uuumm, I think that's about it. Oh he said to call every 2 weeks to check to see if they are done.

I read somewhere that what they are doing is checking FBI records and depending how fast they get the results back is how long it will take to send us the appt letter. It said about 2 weeks but I have been looking at other peoples timelines and it varies.

This must be one of those Wednesdays that they are closed. I'll call again tomorrow. I called my senator today and they said they haven't heard anything and they will get back to me when they do. They said they will call Juarez before the end of the week. So do you feel like it was helpful to call Juarez? Will you be calling again? I am trying to decide if I should call or just wait. Did you really see some people that just took two weeks in Juarez before they sent out package 3? That would be great. So you think the processing in Juarez is the same processing they do at NVC? If that is the case then since we were all stuck in AP at NVC it should be faster at Juarez? :) Don't you hope it is?

So we are still looking into going to Juarez via El Paso. How about you guys?

Yes, it was helpful b/c it put my mind at ease knowing that they sent the packet out and I was just sitting at home. We were hoping to go to Juarez the 1st week in Sept and that's why I called so much b/c I needed to know if I could leave on Friday or not. I guess it is a good thing we didn't go if they were closed monday and wednesday.

I'll call again either on Friday or on Wednesday of next week. Now we have it planned that we are going to Juarez in 2 weeks. neither of us can wait any more. I guess that's why they charge 7 dollars so people won't be calling and calling every day every hour, lol I know I would

I don't see why it should take so long if we were in AP at NVC either.

Last week I was going through and checking everyones timeline from Mexico b/c i wanted to see more or less how long it takes to get the packet sent out. And there were a couple of people who got theirs in 15 days but some people took 2 months. I think it took so long for them to get it is b/c sometimes Juarez drags their feet. if you have a senator involved it kinda pushes Juarez to hurry and not leave the papework sitting on someones desk for 3 weeks waiting to be mailed out.

I'm taking the bus to Monterrey to meet up with him and then we'll take the bus to Juarez. My dad said i should just drive to El Paso(about 8/9 hrs from here) and leave my car in El Paso. the thing is I don't feel like driving, lol

I just want to relax the whole way up there try to focus and clear my head and of course pray.

We just need to be really careful. I've been reading a lot of stories of things that go on over there. But you know what I just realized nothing seems to happen to the people on here. I've read stories in the papers, but I haven't heard a VJer comment about anything. Who knows

My employer sends people back and forth from El Paso to Juarez. In talking with locals there, they mostly say that the violence is gang versus gang. And that even a gringo man with a mexican woman shouldn't have a problem...as long as you are not somewhere that you don't belong.

Also they use a "service" to cross from El Paso to Juarez, about $60USD

Can someone explain to me how to call CDJ and speak to a person? I followed the instructions on the http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/contact-us.html website but the options I got to a point in the automated system where it said to enter my credit card and I would be charged $71.00 USD. I just want to call and talk to a person to see that our case has arrived and is being processed.

Our senator's office talked to the CDJ consulate 2 weeks ago and they said that our case is there and is being processed but then the senator's office said they are just going to wait until they hear from them again when they send out the open invitation letter. I was hoping I would be able to call and get more information sooner.

$71.00 DOLLARS...holy smokes!!! I have a feeling that you will be receiving something soon maybe within the next couple of weeks.

I certainly hope so. Did you see anywhere in this site that gives more specific instructions on how to call? My phone won't permit me to call the 1-900 number and the credit card number was the one that led me down a long street of automated responses and asked for my credit card number.

Ok, I must confess I called the number 3 times last week(twice on Friday). I just checked my checking account and it is $7.00 for the call. After the recording of the girl a man starts talking I pressed 1 and then it said 1 for english or 2 for spanish. I chose english but couldn't figure out if he was saying immigrant or non-immigrant. I called like 10 times trying to figure out what was being said. Finally, I accidentally hit 2 and the man started speaking in spanish and I understood him a lot better :)

but after i pushed 1 for english i pushed 2 and the system asked for my credit card information. If you press 1 at the end of the long message it said that the information was for all consulates except Juarez.

I was trying to justify my spending $21 on 3 calls to Juarez and I finally came up with the fact that I can send my SO $100 and he'll recieve 1331 pesos which makes up for it, right? lol

That is the kind of justification I do all the time. So which of the numbers did you call originally? And did you actually end up speaking to someone, if so what did they say?

Oops, sorry I didn't read your whole question.

The first 2 times I called it was a lady speaking in spanish and she updated all my info(I moved last month) and she verified the names and said that they were still processing the paperwork. I called the Department of State visa line and went through all of the steps and the message says the office is closed. Today is Wednesday so I'm not sure why it is closed. I'll let you know if I get through.

I read that they are closed on some wednesdays during the month

I called DOS this morning and spoke to a live person. Bizarre. I called (202)663-1225 press 1, 0

Thanks Lisa,

I'll try them again tomorrow. Did they give you any good news?

I like Guera/Sandi's idea of going to El Paso her fiance meeting her at the border. I told Roberto and he said that is a great idea. I wanted him to fly to El Paso and then we could go back to Juarez together but I am a little nervous about him arriving again on a B2 since he is now an intending immigrant in the system.

I also like chinman's taxi idea. Jeez I hope they send us all a big pile of packet 3s in the next few days, then I can see you all in Juarez.

Hey you guys!!! i havent been on the forum because I honestly thought that Estrella and I were the only ones in Juarez.

well My packet 3 left nvc June 17th, i got my apptm letter two weeks after telling me that my apptmt was july 15th.

I need to file a waiver, so Im still in Juarez, I came here july 12th did my medical on monday 13th(expirience on page 222) went to visa appt. on July 15th but after a short review of my papers a nice officer re-scheduled me for the 16th, it was late and they were about to close, so i went n the 16 at 6:30 was out of there by 8:30 with blue paper and my next appt is in sept 23rd.

Kind of like the story from strelleas acquaintance from hotel. I spent 21 dlls making the stupid waiver appointments.

I do remember beeing so stressed when i called nvc and all they could say was your case has been sent to cdj.

Have you tried the cdj website? theres link under the Visas Tab then click IV then it has a link stating all of the appts scheduled for the next two months.

also i have a useful number for you guys. : its a local juarez number, this is the number they use to communicate with employees at the non immigrant visa part of the consulate. dont press any numbers for the recording, just let the operator talk and then it will be transfered to a live persons, then you ask her to communicate you with IV, the num is 227-3000 so i guess if your dialing long distance dial 0115265 or: 227-3354 Im really sorry for not reading any of these sooner. I hope to be of help, because man...... its stressful being without my husband here in Juarez. he comes see me once a week. but you know..... lets just say i miss a few thing a lot more than others!

Can I ask you a question? Have you seen any US Citizens going into the consulate with their SOs? I was wondering if there is any chance I can go to the interview. I know everyone says no but since you have been there maybe you can tell us first hand. Also, are there restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance to the consulate? Is there any need for a car or is public transportation reliable? Have you felt safe there? Sorry for so many questions.

NO worries, Your questions are welcomed!!

Well I did see various couples in line waiting for me. the first couple was an blonde american man with his very nice fiance from chiapas.. she asked the guard if he could enter and the guard said no. Only the applicant, we were both re-scheduled for next morning. so the next morning she asked a different guard if he could enter because he was her translator, and they let him in... we in the line knew she was lying about the whole translator thing. but we didnt say anything because we wish we would have been as cunning as she....my dh waited outside, because the waiting area was still not opened.

They are, actually the surroundings of either consulates here are prepared to receive the amount of "torists" theres a Mall, theres a Denny's and a starbucks. as far as walking goes. I dont know how they walk where your from... but here.. its like a herd.. never cross the street by yourself. even if its in the "walking" zone. drivers here dont respect. I try to wait for several people whom are intending to cross, then i go with the flow. Bus drivers are JERKS!!! they drive really fast and very careless. I find the safest way to get around the city is through Taxi, or shuttles from your hotel.

I have very much felt the need for a car, thank you for asking. I dont have my own, because hubby is affraid i'll get carjacked. Define safe?? I feel incarcerated. it really depends on who you ask. ITs true, theres an average of 10 grizzly murders a day in this town. Most happen at night, But It is also true that it is between gangs, and mobs, and retard criminals. I have not witnessed anything yet. but there have been murders around the house where I'm staying.

Im just trying to hold on to my innocence, Im not affraid of getting attacked Im affraid of seeing something that will change me or make me cold hearted. So I keep to myself.

I hope that answers all.. And dont worry. I'll answer more if you need me to. I was just as insecure as you are right now when the appointment date came & i knew i would have to come over here.

Guera,

Because you said you will need a few weeks notice for work it reminded me that I needed to mention to my chair that I may have to miss a day or so of class. I just talked to her and she said of course she would support me going to Juarez to be with Roberto.

The Department of State said that my applicaiton has been in Juarez since 8/17, that it is being processed and that I should call back next week. Hopefully my senator's office gets a better answer tomorrow.

UGGGGGGGGGG, I hate that answer! At least you know it is really there. I have to talk to my new lead he has no idea what is going on with this whole process. I hope that he will support me. He seems to be very nice and understanding. I am going to have surgery tomorrow morning and just found out about it Tuesday and he made every effort to find someone to cover me. I just don't know how to approach him and discuss this with him. He actually works in our main office so I don't see him often. Hmmm, not sure what to do here.
