Wow, congratulations! that is great advice. I am getting myself together to send it to my senator next week. We got stuck in AP at NVC when I thought our case was in Juarez. The moment I know the case is in Juarez I'm going to write my senator to make sure the process goes quickly. Thanks for the advice and congrats again!

Hey Everyone!

Just an update on our case....

After contacting my Congressman on July 23, his assistant sent out some forms that I needed to fill out. I received them on July 31. I immediately filled them out and sent them back on August 3. I called in on August 7 to confirm they had received them. His assistant confirmed they received my forms and told me they had already contacted the embassy through e-mails and snail mail on August 4 and 5 and were waiting for a response. I asked how long the embassy usually took to respond and she said, "We give them about six weeks to respond before we take further action." So at this point I'm sitting there thinking how worthless was this? What a waste of my time!! I decided to leave it alone for a week. Then I would call the embassy once more in an effort to pursuade them to get off their asses and send me my stuff!!! I was dreading that phone call; I don't like to be mean. To my surprise, I didn't have to wait for a week to pass and I didn't have to lose my temper. I opened my mailbox yesterday expecting nothing more than the usual stack of bills and grocery ads; but there was more. We received our open appointment letter in the mail yesterday. The embassy had sent it on August 6.

My Congressman's office had contacted them the week before, and not even a week later, I had the open appointment letter in my hand!! It really worked!!

Word of advice: DO THIS!! IT WORKS!!

Thanks to everyone that helped answer my question and for all the advice.

Special thanks to Tom_A!

FINALLY!!

FYI: Ciudad Juarez had our petition for a total of 50 days before they sent out the packet.

We're planning to be in Juarez the week of August 31.

I am truly happy to see that some information that I have helps others go through the process that I am in the middle of. We are in Juarez. FYI don't forget that the consulate has some closures on the last week of each month. You might be ok with 31st of August. All the very best to you. Right now Marcela and two sons are in the interview. We are trying something new with a minor son. He had his TB test yesterday and they are allowing us to interview today and wait on the results of TB test. I will fill everyone in on how things go. I see this site as a family. If I can impart any wisdom onto anyone, it will be my sincere pleasure. One other word of advice. On the day you go for your medical. DON'T do what we did. GO DIRECTLY TO THE CLINIC. DO NOT GO TO CONSULATE. They will direct you all over the place and will waste a lot of time. Not much advice I can give about getting results. Take an umbrella and water to keep hydrated. IT'S HOTTTTT here!

I wish you guys the best of luck please keep us posted. I read everything in the Juarez forums because that is one of the steps I am most anxious about. We hope to be there next month. Our 129f just got sent there yesterday. I really hope that it can get processed at CDJ in around a month and that Im not being unrealistic. Let us know how it goes.

I think we just experienced a miracle. Marcela took her 10 year old son and 20 year old son to the medical on Monday. We received results for just her medical and the 20 year old. We are instructed to wait until thursday for the 10 year old's results. I suggested to Marcela that they all go to the consulate on Tuesday to see what they say. We had nothing to lose. Guess what? They performed the interview and wa la!! We have a visa pending. We must wait until Thursday. As soon as we receive results for the 10 year old, we will go directly to the window where she was interviewed and we will receive our visa in hand. Not DHL!!! Not sure what happened here but it must be a miracle. When I see the visa in hand I will report back to everyone.

I have two bits of advice. Come prepared, and don't take no for an answer. Support your fiance(e) he/she is why you are going through this process. Honesty pays off every time. We were over prepared with paperwork and the person at consulate was quite impressed and the interview went very very fast.

By what i read online, the police certificate from Mexico is not available, and for that reason is not required. here is the link http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3622.html

Interesting. I would get it either way just in case. It's really easy to get them and it's free. Better to have more than less for this kind of paperwork.

Cheers everyone and good luck!

you can't get these in all parts of Mexico and it's not necessary for the Visa process at Juarez. (Unless things have changed in the past few years, which I doubt)

Amazing! Congratulations! That is just great and it is wonderful advice.

I am gonna have a ton of questions for you in a few weeks. Our plan is to go in the beginning of October but of course that depends on how quickly they process our 129f.

OK... I'm really confused. Tried to find the answer to this and found different answers.

Once the NVC sends the info to Juarez: One person said your fiancee does not have to wait for Juarez to send the letter. That you can call the consulate and if they have received the case, you can go on to Juarez.(If you have downloaded all of the forms off their website) But, someone else said you do have to wait until they mail the letter to your fiancee.

Also, what determines visa-in-hand or mailed out? Manuel has to travel 27 1/2 hours to get to Juarez. It would be awful if he had to go back home to wait on the visa.

Can someone please straighten me out ?

Thanks!

I read in this forum that you have to wait until they mail the letter (packet 3) but that you don't have to wait to receive it. I know that the exact forms in the packet are on the Juarez website and so the only thing you need from that packet is the letter. I also read that you dont need to wait and get the the letter in the mail before you go to CDJ. You can go to the consulate in Juarez and they will print a copy for you but only if they have already sent you one. I am pretty sure they receive and process the I129f in Juarez and that takes some time. Some applications have gotten AP at Juarez so to me that means you can't just go once they have it but you have to wait until they have processed it. I would love it if I were wrong. Hopefully someone who has been to Juarez already will know for sure.

Thanks Jenny,

I have read so much that I was just confused. I appreciate the info. We have downloaded the forms and I'm sending them to him. We got an RFE. But, you know how it is. We're just trying to make sure we do everything right and at the same time as quick as we can. So it sounds like we may have a little bit of a wait. But, now I know to call the consulate once NVC sends it so I can see if it's been processed. Then we can go from there. Thanks again for straightening it out for me.

Good luck to you guys, it shouldn't be much longer. :)

We are currently in Juarez. We came with a copy of our Open Appointment Letter. That is your ticket into the medical exam as well as your interview.

I also read that you can come without that letter. Not sure I would chance it. My suggestion to you is to give it two weeks before you take action. Then, if you receive nothing by then, contact your congressman and request a review. They will take your information then contact the consulate and within a week or two you will have the appointment letter in hand unless there is a problem with your application. In that case they will assist you in resolving the issue at hand. Don't waste time and money calling the consulate. They will tell you all sorts of things which are NOT accurate.

WE were told many things by phone as well as in person that did not happen. We submitted payment for visas on Thursday and today is Saturday and we are still here waiting on the consulate to get our visa over to DHL.

If you are a single person without children under 14 yo, you can possibly get in and out of here within 4-5 days. If you have any other questions, please post. We are all here to help one another.

Thanks, Tom.

It is really great when people like you and Jenny, among others, help those of us who feel so lost. I never imagined when we first began this, that there was so much involved, and so many t's to cross and i's to dot. Of course, it's more than worth it :)

Honestly, without VJers I don't know how most of us would make it through this!!!

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Thanks so much Kathy,

I feel the same way. I wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing if it weren't for VJ. Today I looked back through all of the Juarez forums trying to figure out how long it really takes them to process the 129 f at CDJ. What Tom said really put me at ease. It is nice to have someone go through it right before we are going to go. I sometimes get worried that our visa will be stuck at Juarez for months too because if you go to the timelines and set a search just for Mexico it looks like CDJ takes at the very least 49 days (and most were a lot longer) between arrival and visa-in-hand. But if you look at what Tom and others have said in this forum it is a lot shorter.

I hope and hope Roberto will be here by October.

I am still torn about whether I (USC) should go to Juarez or not. Does anyone here have an opinion about that?

I went to Juarez for CR1 which is a lil' bit different, mu husband was there with me, (when we went there wasn't a waiting area at outside the consulate yet, the construction of it was almost done tho, so it may be ready and in use by now) so he waited for me at the denny's close to the consulate. His presence wasn't needed by the CO but it did helped me to know that if i needed him he was right out there and I could just go get him if something went wrong, it made me feel good and secure at the time of the interview, if not needed in the consular time it was a good moral support for me, so is really up to you, if you have the means to be there and support Roberto, be there it wouldn't hurt and it could be useful to give him support and just in case something goes wrong and you are needed.

I wish you the best of lucks.

I have an opinion regarding whether to attend the visa medical exam and interview. You may not attend in person with your SO but you can stay back and give moral support to your SO. I read in another forum that the SO was at the interview and was made to feel like she was lying, etc. Her Fiance went to the consulate and cleared it all up by answering questions and providing more evidence to support their REAL relationship. I couldn't sit at home thinking that my fiancee and kids were at their interview and they needed something and I wasn't here to support them. So, I recommend you being with your SO to support them and make sure they have everything they need from you first hand. In case you don't know what SO is. It means Significant Other. Sorry for acronyms. hehehehe All the very best of luck to everyone who follows us in this process. Godspeed.

Don't forget that as far as I know. Nobody here is an immigration attorney and this is all he/she does. most of us are all in the same boat, passing on experiences to the next couple so they can succeed at this process.
