YGandMAT - my husband and I sent his AOS, EAD, and AP application this weekend. I was wondering if between now and any forms are received, are the only type of appointment we get is a biometrics (for AOS and EAD both?)? We did the I-693 with the civil surgeon who transcribed the vaccines, but in the guides for AOS, it talks about a test for tb, syphillis, and HIV. Are we going to have to make an appointment for that, or was that part of the medical exam if my husband didn't go through as a K1?

You can possibly get 2 appointments for biometrics but ask at the first one if if they can do both at the same time. They may not even ask about tb but it depends on the interviewer. I would check with people that went to your local USCIS office and see if they were asked about a tb test. My wife was pregnant when she went to her K3 interview so she didn't get the x-ray, when we went to the AOS interview they never mentioned it. We apply for removal of conditions next July and I doubt that it will ever be brought up.

Hi nm123, the medical exam that your spouse took in Ciudad Juarez already tested for those diseases. If they had found something negative, his visa would have been denied until he got medical treatment for any disease found in the medical examination. The x rays are for TB, the blood tests will test HIV and other contagious/infectious disease. So your spouse is OK, tests were complete in Ciudad Juarez.

You will only get one appointment for biometrics, they are combined. We only got one appointment for biometrics, and my husband also applied for EAD and AOS.

I have been wondering about the actual interview. How is it? Do they actually take the mexican into a room and actually interview them, or is the actual 'interview' done at the window too like most of the other stuff. I was just asking because they seem to ask quite a bit of questions at the window, and no one that has been to juarez for the visa has really mentioned anything about the interview as far as going into the another room, they just pretty much repeat the questions that were asked, so that was confusing me.

1) does the interview take place in another room, or at the window?

2) if it takes place at the window, im guessing they are not going to be looking at much proof. I looked at a preview post and it said that they didnt even check the paperwork. Can you tell me what they looked over, paper work wise for you (people who have been to juarez and have had their interview)

Hi GueraKristina,

1. The interview will take place in a window

2. My husband said they took less than 5 minutes for the interview. They asked him to see the financial documents, so he showed them our I-134, my recent check stubs, my taxes and an offer of employment letter for him once he arrived in the us.

3. They did not request to see any evidence of our marriage, they did not bother to look at photos or letters.

4. They did ask him questions about our marriage, wow, can't remember what they asked him, but I posted this info on this thread.

5. The requirements may be different for a K1 than a K3. As a fiance, you may need to prove relationship. But I'm unsure.

I have read where some offices don't accept the x-ray for tb but only some offices. I wouldn't wory about it though.

Thanks for the reply YGandMAT, i have been reading some peoples reviews of what happened after they got approved. They said that they crossed a bridge or something. Is that what most people do because it is most convenient and than they take a plane out of wherever they cross into? Alfredo planned on going back to Gualupita, (his home town, 8-9 hrs away) after he got approved and then the next day take a plane out of Mexico city, (1 1/2 hrs away from where he lives). It sounds like a lot of unnecessary running around if he can just cross into the U.S and then take a plane out of ?El Paso Texas? where does the 'bridge' cross into? and can people do that... take a plane out of there?

P.S how did you find out about 'the bridge' if you used it, and is it easy to find?

It may sound dumb, but haha if there arn't signs to get to these places i doubt alfredo will find them because ive pounded into his head that he can't talk to any1 and ask for directions because they will try to get you mixed up. Please do what you can to help clear me up haha, if it is too complicated, i am just going to have to go with alfredo to mexico for his interview so atleast we can get lost together.

There are 3 bridges into El Paso from Juarez only about 5 minutes from the consulate. The Airport is only 10 minutes from the bridge. Tickets from El Paso would probably be cheaper than from Mexico City. The wait at the bridge may be a while but he would have to go inside at the bridge to get his I-94 anyway and then he can walk out and take a cab to the airport. Unless he needs to go back home it seems easier, faster, and cheaper if he just crossed into El Paso and flew from there to where you live. Southwest Airlines flies into El Paso so they are cheeper than everyone else if they fly close to where you live.

Thanks so much. There are signs indicating what direction to go in to get to one of the bridges that takes you into El paso right? And you said that regardless of whether or not he crosses into the U.S through one of the bridges, he needs to go there to get his I-94 anyway, what is the I-94?

Also, i am worried that our ages our going to be help against us when he gets his interview. I thought the same thing about the I-129F but then we got approved, so i am hoping that as long as we have all of the information that we need, and good financial support through the I-134 that me and my mom and step dad filled out, there is no reason why we shouldnt get the visa right?... i hope... :(

There are 5 crossing points in Ciudad Juarez. When you receive the visa, they will indicate what is the crossing point you should take (if he is planning to come to the US at that time) . They will attach a label to the yellow envelope that you have to surrenter when you cross. The label will indicate your crossing point. The crossing point that was indicated for us was FABENS, TEXAS...and it was OVER an hour to get there...and an expensive cab ride. So cross your fingers so you don't get this place. It was good that we got this place in a way, because we only waited like for 5 minutes for the immigration officer to be with us (this place is not as busy as the others). The cab driver took us from Ciudad Juarez, to Fabens, Texas. The cab driver crossed the border into the US (many have border crossing visas for work) and then he took us to El Paso, Texas. There we stayed at the hotel, and flew to Oakland on the next day. The I-94 is a document they will give you when you cross the border. It is a very important document that shows you are allowed to be in the US. It will have an expiration date and you will need this for AOS.

Why don't you have your fiance just fly to the US once he gets his visa? It's unecessary for him to go back to his hometown and then fly out of Mexico City. Unless he really needs to go to his hometown.

Question- when he enters the consulate and goes to a window eventually and they ask him for his forms, what forms should he fork over? I've heard they won't really be specific as to what forms they want from him, so I want to make sure he gives them only the forms they need.

DS-156

DS-156K

DS-157

Is that all? All the I-134 stuff isn't included in "forms" then?? Anything else he should give to them right away? Thanks!

Gaby&Talbert and YGandMAT- thanks you two for both of your answers!

For GueraKristina and caityrose - Be sure to familiarize yourselves with the CDJ map:

The new consulate is with the blue pushpin called "New Consulate." I can't remember but I think it's already open. It'll help you know where the bridges are located too. I went with him (I flew into El Paso, and we met at the Jose Marti Suites, about 15 mins from the consulate) and felt safe and pretended like I knew where I was going. When he went to his medical, he hid his papers under a sweatshirt so no one would talk to him about documents.

At his interview, my husband submitted the necessary docs (DS-156, DS-156k, DS-157, his birth certificate & copy, my copy of my citizenship, my tax transcripts & 1040s & Ws & employment letter & 4 recent paystubs - I had the I-134 ready but the tax stuff was enough - letters of intent from both of us) and his Banamex receipt & medical results. So with him, they didn't take the I-134 and he didn't offer it.

I sure hope the new consulate is not open. Both times my fiance called (and spent lots of money on the phonecall) they told him they'd be moving November 4-6, and then the next time they told him they'd be moving in the middle on November. His hotel reservation is for a hotel near the consulate, and so I hope that they haven't moved. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Thanks

The new consulate isn't open yet, we drove by it a few weeks ago when we were there visiting family. I think it is scheduled to open next summer because of delays but it could be sooner. It is in a much nicer part of town and much safer.

If you are getting a K1 visit you are only allowed one entry into the US so only go to the bridge if you are planning on entering the US and not going back to Mexico until you get advanced parol.

I hope thy aren't making people drive an hour away from Juarez to enter the US. You should be able to enter at ANY point of entry into the US. The 3 bridges in Juarez are the easiest and when we entered after my wife's visa we didn't go to the bridge that was on the paper she got from the consulate, we used a different one without any problems.

There are signs to get to El Paso from Juarez but the streets are confusing, luckily my wife knoows her way around Juarez, a cab to the bridge would be the easiest way to go then get out and walk to the building, don't wait in the cab.

Hello imsanchez, i have been approved and i have recieved my appt. letter and packet in the mail already so i think i am a little bit ahead of you in the process so it feels good being able to give some advice. For k1s you get an open appt. letter, which means you can go any time you want, i think up to a year after the date that it says in the top corner of your appt letter. like for mine, it says august 25th, and i believe all k1's can go between 8-10 am. You do not have to make an appt. for the actual consulate, just go within a year of the appt. letter and between those times, and you should be fine. Your fiance is the only one that will have to go through the interview in juarez, since he is mexican and is requesting the visa. Now i am a little nervous myself about the approval part, but like you i have been reading up on the thread, and it seems that as long as you have all of your information, and your fiance has not been to the U.S illegally or overstayed a visit, there is no reason why you shouldnt get approved.

To sum it up, you can go to the interview at the consulate as soon as you have recieved your packet and have your papers ready. Notice i keep saying consulate, you will find out that your fiance will have to go to the doctors next/near the consulate for an appt. to get checked out, have blood drawn, bleh bleh bleh, you have to get this appt done before you go to the consulate because they will ask to see the results of the doctors visit. Everyone on this thread seems to go to the doctors the day before they go to the consulate, as to not waste any time. YOU DO HAVE TO MAKE THE APPT FOR THE DOCTORS THOUGH, SO DONT GET CONFUSED!!!

Are you sure about this GueraKristina?? I don't think an appointment at the doctor's is necessary. There are two clinics that do the medicals near the consulate, and I believe you just show up
