Oh, and if she brings her vaccination card from Mexico, it would help save you a lot of money. I know that K1's don't need vaccinations, but for AOS you will need to submit them. The required vaccines are MMR, Varicella and Td. If she has her vaccination card, she can take it to a Civil Surgeon and have them transcribed to for I-693A for a small fee.

Anyone adjusting status now has to use form I-693 and can't use I-693A anymore (as of August 1, 2008). You'll have to call around different civil surgeon's offices, and most of the receptionists don't know what the heck to do with you, so make sure you stick to the nice receptionists who can answer all your questions. I ended up calling 4 offices where 1 told me to call another office where the doctor "did immigration things," where she was on vacation at that other office and no one knew what to do except the medical exam, another said they only did medical exams, and another was rude and ignorant about different visas and asking why my husband didn't get vaccines in Mexico. The last office finally was helpful and it only cost $15 for the transcription (part 5 of the I-693) and we ended up paying $80 since he had to get 1 vaccine that he hadn't gotten from the Centro de Salud.

Let me ask this... is it better for them to get vaccinations while still in Mexico and then have them transcribed once here? And by better, I mean cheaper and more efficient... I asked Angel if he has any record of vaccinations he got and he said "no." So... I'm wondering if he should get the required 3 for his AOS while he's in Mexico, or just wait til he gets here. Does anyone have any idea how costly it is here to get those? Since he won't have insurance...? which is another thing that confuses me, but I'll worry about the insurance issue later!

Hi Caityrose, YES it is efficient to have them in Mexico. It is way CHEAPER, trust me. I inquired about this, and the costs freaked me out (up to $500 for all of them). Luckily my husband was still in Mexico, so I had him get them there. My husband also did not have his childhood record, so I just told him to go to el centro de salud, and have him speak to a doctor so he could give him the vaccines. The vaccines there are free. They would not give him a varicella vaccine (chicken pox) because they said he was too old for that, and that he probably already had it. So when we met the civil surgeon in the US, he told him he had already had the vaccine and he marked it on the form. The required vaccines are MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella and Td. Which are Sarampeon, Paperas, Rubeola, Varicela y Tetano. So just have him get them in Mexico, and get them transcribed here with a Civil Surgeon.

At the time the Holiday Inn was about 700 peses. Of course the exchange rate went crazy the week I was there.

I am sure the Cedros is fine. The couple that were staying their seem to be a classy couple. And the area really is safe. Would I want to walk down dark alleys at 3am no, but I would not do that in Atlanta either.

The Holiday Inn worked great for us. It is within walking distance to the consulate, maybe 5 minutes (or less). It was safe, clean...and comfortable. We just booked and paid for the hotel online, they have cheaper prices than at the actual hotel. We ended up needing one more night, so I went to the front desk, to book and pay for the extra night, but the price was way more than what we paid online. So I said no, thanks. So I went to the computer room they have there for the guests, which has internet...and I booked it online at the the same hotel for a cheaper price. Silly huh? So I would highly recommend it, and like brian said, it has a market and small shopping center across the street.

While I was there, I know of another U.S. couple that had also decided to wait until entry into the U.S.

But, I would never disagree YGandMAT, since her wealth of knowledge is self-evident. And her tidbit about the free shots is something that I will pass on to my SO. Thank goodness for the regulars.

Hey... by "after the interview" I actually meant that after he has his interview and gets the visa, then I will tell him he should go get the vaccinations. So, he'll go back to Oaxaca and then find some place that does them for free (which would be wonderful!). Sorry I was unclear about that

I'm sure she can get them at the medical building for a high fee. Why don't you have her go to EL CENTRO DE SALUD and get them for free? The have these in every city.

I think it might vary. I can't remember off the top of my head, but when I asked about them, they ranged between $60 and $120 each.

greatgate - Your fiance will also need to get the HPV (Human papillomavirus; aka Gardasil)vaccine if she's under 26. That probably won't be available in Juarez. It's a series of 3 shots (I think every 2 months), and they're each about $150 and she has to have at least the first one when she gets the I-693 transcribed by a civil surgeon.

Therefore, for any medical exam conducted on or after August 1, 2008, the new vaccinations, if appropriate, must be administered in order for USCIS to approve the applicant for adjustment of status.

We are old timers, we filed the I-129F over 13 months ago and her initial medical appt. was approx. April 11th.

breathe in... breathe out...

In one week Angel will be traveling to Ciudad Juarez. The way it worked out, he's leaving Oaxaca at 12:00AM Sunday morning and getting to Ciudad Juarez around 5:30PM. Poor guy... long day.

I feel so exited/nervous/anxious/scared about his interview. I just pray that everything will go smoothly for him and that I get the best phone call of my life on Tuesday afternoon. I'm in class/work on Tuesdays from 9:30AM to 6:30PM straight, but I'm keeping my phone on vibrate the entire day and I will walk out of any class if he calls me. And if the news is good (and it WILL be good), I may be too excited to even go back to class Angel is nervous about everything, so I hope that he has a good experience and the people he has to deal with at the medical exam and the interview are at least somewhat kind.

Anyway- thanks for everyone who has answered all of my questions along the way. I'm sure I'll come up with a few more before Angel heads to CDJ
