Hey, does anyone know what form we need to bring along to show additional support (e.g., a co-sponsor) under the affidavit of support? It seems to be EITHER the I-134, the I-864 or the Mexican OF-167 ....?

Also, is it strange that the consulate mailed my fiance's materials to ME in the USA, rather than her, in Mexico? This was a surprise to get in the mail!

Thanks!

--Dave

They don't require the I-134, but it's used most often at CDJ by members here. I-864 is for Adjustment of Status. The OF-167 is a list of things you can provide.

I ended up using the I-134 and having it notarized, but when my fiance went to his interview, they only asked for my employment letter, paystubs & tax info. He didn't end up showing the I-134.

Thanks for the info! The reason I ask about co-sponsor is that I consult, and as such, have month-to-month employment (or at most, a six month consulting contract). So, while I can show income, etc., I figure the co-sponsorship will add a dimension of assurance, if necessary...

sound about right?

thanks!

--Dave

Right. If you make more than 125% over the poverty line if it's just you two that you'll be supporting, you'd need to make at least $17,500/yr. If you want the co-sponsor, you'll need him/her to make more than $22,000/yr if it's the 3 of you (at least, I think that's right - I wonder if the co-sponsor would just need to make over $17,500/yr since he/she'd be sponsoring just the immigrant and not the citizen... hmm, well, most people make more than either of those figures unless they're students, so I would just make sure the co-sponsor makes at least $22,000/yr). You'll need to provide tax transcripts for the past 3 yrs (or W2s & 1040s) and employment letters for you and the co-sponsor. Hope that makes sense!

Does anyone know how long it takes to become a US citizen? Is this when you receive the green card??? Reason I ask is because I know it takes about 1 year to bring a parent to the US after becoming a US citizen, I am just not sure when or how long it takes to become a US citizen. Anyone have any info on this?

After 3 yrs of having her Permanent Residency ("green card"), Diana will be able to apply for naturalization. If she were a regular Permanent Resident (as opposed to receiving her Permanent Residency through marrying you), then she'd have to wait 5 yrs. Here's some more info: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=313

So glad your sticking around nm123. :star:

I received my appointment package on Friday. My SO was very excited to hear the news. I am planning to leave for Mexico on the 4th of October and return on the 13th with my SO, if all goes well.

The tentatave schedule is to drive to Juarez from Guadalajara on the 5th. Medical exam on Monday the 6th, Consulate the 7th, and hopefully drive back to Guadalajara on the 8th.

My SO suggested flying from Guadalajara to Juarez, but I like the flexibility of being able to schedule our return. Suppose there is a computer problem, form problem, etc. that does not get resolved until Friday, then it would be a problem if our return tickets were for Weds.

And on the other hand, if everything went well, and we could come back on Weds., it would stink to have to stay in Juarez until Thurs. or Fri., just because that was the date of our tickets.

My SO's family is planning a small fiesta for Saturday, then we plan on flying home Monday.

Well, that is the plan. We shall see.

Brian - That was fast! And your plan sounds good. One thing to consider is that your fiancee will probably have her appointment at the new consulate. It's on the google map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&amp...33411f1eb09b96a

So far so good

He has the results in his hands. He is kind of snoopy, but I'm sure he won't open that envelope. He said they treated him very nicely. Everyone there was good and even the people outside were friendly. That's good to hear. He explained somethings they checked for, drew his blood, checked his eyes, x-rays, etc. It was a basic physical. they asked him about his drug history/none...they asked him if he has ever broken anything/nope....so he's good :)

Tomorrow is the interview!!! I'm so excited for him!! If all that goes well...he will be in my town Saturday :)

THAT IS AWESOME NEWS! We tried to peek into the black medical envelope but the larger one just had his x-ray. There was no way the smaller one would be opened without being obvious.

i don't think it's on the CDJ website, but at immigrate2us, they talk about it. i just did a search and it looks like the beginning of november the new consulate will be open. last i heard, it was going to be this month.... so i guess that didn't happen yet.

Ask him which medical clinic did he choose? I think most of the posts on VJ were basically positive with the one being on the same side of the street as the consulate being slightly in the lead.
