I agree with Gaby, that you should try and provide 2007 tax return. All you have to do is request a tax transcript, they're free and take about 3 weeks to receive. Plus, if Diana is going until June, you have plenty of time to obtain what you need and then send it to her.

Speaking of taxes, does anyone know how taxes are done in Mexico (for Mexican citizens)? Do they have a system like ours, and do most people pay earned income tax and get a refund/pay by a certain time (like us, in April)?

So Sanfran, did the consulars interrogate the ####### out of you or did they pretty much just look over the papers quickly (1-2 minutes) and say that you were approved? And were they nice and friendly or mean and cruel or in between?!?!

Also, Diana will be returning to Juarez late June, from your experience, do you think it will be a problem that she has only a 2006 tax return from my dad (cosponsor)? (I provided 2007, 2006, and 2005.)

Lastly, that movie "La misma luna" was very good. It was kinda funny when they were smuggling the kid across the border there was a sign that said 2KM to Ciudad Juarez!!!! They went through the Juarez/El Paso border so it was kinda cool to watch.

They didnt interrogate her at all. She had an american guy interview her and all he asked were 3 questions. What does your fiance do for a living, how did you meet, and where do you plan on staying once you arrive in the u.s. All he wanted to see were fotos and since she had a foto album it wouldnt fit through the slot on the window pane so she had to flip the pages through the glass. He just saw 4 pages and he said..ok thats enough, thank you" for the tax question.She said he was nice and joked with her a bit. Bit of advice...when you get there in the morning ,I would say 7am to 730 is ok, tell the guard you have an open appointment for the K1 and he will escort you to door 1 and Diana wont have to stand on that long line for set apps. For your tax question I only gave them my 07 1099 and tax return forms...both copies, not originals and also provided about 3 months of recent pay stubs. They gave back the stubs and kept the rest. We havent heard of that movie but it sounds good. I'll look out for it. Well gate.. dont worry. You should be fine once you get around to the interview. Im sure you'll have more than enough to satisfy them. I suggest you concentrate on the 07 returns. Good luck.

To those who have been to Juarez recently, was there much talk about the new embassy and when it would open. I would be interested in knowing whether the new embassy is near the old one. I have read that it was scheduled to open in June of 2008.

Of course, I am sure that anything involving immigration automatically means that the time line will be delayed.

And, knowing my luck, they will be shut down an entire week for moving while I am there.

I have read about the last 50 pages of this thread, and feel really comfortable with the rest of the process. Just a quick thanks to those incredibly knowledgeable persons who continue to post long after their Juarez journey.

Good morning, guys!

Let me introduce myself as the newest member of the Juarez Consulate club. My wife is from Colombia and we got married in Colombia... but happens she is currently living in Mexico. So... according to the NVC, my case will be forwarded to Mexico. I will need all the help you can give me with this process, for I had read, learned and studied everything required by the consulate in Bogota... now I need to quickly get up to speed with the requirements at the consulate in Juarez.

On the other hand, I am living in El Paso, TX and she is living in Juarez... so the consulate is 5 minutes away from her apartment. If I can help anyone of you with questions about the city, hotels, etc. just let me know.

Interview... here we go!!!

In less than 3 weeks expect packet 3 to arrive at the US address in el Paso. In the meantime, do the hardest part first: affidavit of support. Once that is complete with the previous 3 years tax returns (probably 1 will be sufficient but 3 is what most people provide), you simply need to fill out the DS 156 and DS 156K, fiancee in Mexico does not sign anything. It takes 5 minutes to complete, print 2 identical copies of each. Then you need to have an intent to marry signed by the US citizen and unsigned by the Mexican citizen.

I have a good list a few pages back of everything that is necessary to bring to the Juarez consulate. It is on page 140

"the.ronin" has a good detailed description of the process on page 121.

1) Financial proof: try to provide 3 years previous tax returns and be sure to be over the poverty limit, NOTARIZED with a letter from your employment.

2) Unsigned intent to marry from Mexican Citizen

3) Unsigned, DS-156 and DS-156K, dual copies of both

4) USC signed intent to marry form

5) NOA 2 color copy, not the original. Printed on 1 piece of paper, double-sided

6) USC birth certificate along with a copy (TWO BIRTH CERTIFICATES, ONE ORIGINAL)

7) Proof of ongoing relationship including pictures and travel itineraries

8) the original I-129F submission

9) at least two 2x2 passport sized photos of non-US citizen

10) A color copy of USC passport and the original passport of your fiancee (Colombian passport?), cannot expire within 6 months of the appointment

11) The first page of packet 3 will have your name and your fiancee's, this is the APPOINTMENT LETTER, you need this page to get the medical exam done and to enter the US embassy

Juan Carlos, most of us in here are K1 visa filers. I automatically assumed that you filed a K1.

....I am not certain what the differences between the K3 and K1 are, I thought they were basically the same but someone will respond with the differences, I am sure.

Here is the link to the Juarez consulate. They have a list of everything you need for the K3. You are lucky, you aren't really seperated from your wife. Does she have a B1 visa? If so then she can cross the border all she wants but if not then you can go to Juarez and stay with her.

Just to let everyone know that we will be heading to our K1 Visa interview on April 22-34 (Medical and Embassy).

We figured out that leaving on Monday and having the medical on Tuesday and the interview on Wednesday would be a good idea since most people do it Monday-Tuesday.

Also, one question, she will be driving a RENTAL CAR from San Antonio to El Paso and she doesn't know if she can enter and drive the car in Juarez?? we don't want to get in trouble, she's a US Citizen and I guess she wouldn't have trouble driving back to El Paso on her own, just want to know if in Cd Juarez would she need to fill out a form? I know most border towns is pretty common to see cars with US License Plates so if anyone knows about this it would be helpful.

Wow, your English is superb! All I can tell you is that I live 30 minutes from Canada and I have driven across the border too many times to count. It shouldn't be a problem

Worst case scenario is that they will ask in a semi-stern voice, "Does the rental company know that you are bringing the car to Mexico?" If this question pops up either tell them yes or that you looked over the policies and nowhere did it say anything against bringing the car out of the country.

For the member who asked about the difference between a K1 and a K3. A K1 is a fiance visa, meaning the benificiary is not married and the marriage will occur until they are in the U.S. The purpose of a k1 is to bring the foreign fiance to the U.S. for marriage. A K3 is a spousal visa, meaning the benificiary and the petitioner are already married.

A difference is the paperwork that's involved is that a K1 files the I-129F, while a K3 files the I-129F AND a I-130. Another difference worth mentioning is that K1 fiance visas offer an OPEN APPOINTMENT, meaning that once you receive the packet from Juarez, you are ready to head out to Juarez any day you want. On the other hand, a K3 spousal visa will receive a specific date for their appointment when they receive their packet from Juarez. But other than that, I really can't think of any other differences between the K1 and K3.

The rental place will have you purchase mexican insurance and a special permit will also be needed to enter mexico with an american car. It's not that much. I think its like 10 dollars a day for the mexican insurance. I paid $200 for 2 weeks of insurance on my car.
