From what I heard they are in Spanish, but they may ask him how you guys communicate with each other.

My fiance and I use English, he speaks a little Spanish and we do use a few phrases every now and then, but it's just so much easier to speak in English that we don't do it too much :)

He did have to translate what his dad said to my dad when his parents came to ask for my "hand" though :D

My fiance and I speak in Spanish, probably because if I speak to him in Engish, he won't understand me, lol  My fiance doesn't speak too much English, just basic stuff, little things I have taught him. Let's just say, he is going to need to enroll in English lessons as soon as he gets to the US, ASAP! :D

Well we speak in both languages. My Spanish is quite good, and his English has definitely improved during our relationship. He always had an interest in English, therefore he picked up quickly. He also studied it in high school and college. He too is nervous about the interview being in English. He is afraid he will say the wrong thing due to nerves.

Oh yeah, UCLA_Cutie I went back to Bank of America (different branch again) and asked to speak to another supervisor. Again, I was told that it is BOA's policy to no longer issue any kind of letter on letter head unless it is a computer printout. She said no officer is allowed to write anything on their own or sign anything. The best they were able to do for me is to print out a their screen which shows date account opened and balance. I asked them to print that out on BOA letterhead, and she did. She also put a stamp on it that read: I certify this to be a true copy of the original and signed it. I had her do that for both my checking and savings account. I hope that will suffice since that is the best they can do. I am also attaching my bank statements for the entire year.

KK I am very excited for you. Don't forget to post everything that was done and said during the interview process :) I am sure WE are ALL anxious to hear .

We tend to speak and write mostly in Spanish..we try to have small conversations occasionally in English so that he can practice more...his English is pretty good...he studied in school and in Canada...but it is hard for him when I speak quickly. He hopes to eventually get into a masters degree program here so we should probably be speaking more English but it is hard when you get used to using one language more. I also find that when you are emotional because of the separation and everything, you just want to communicate without worrying if he understands you. Do you all feel that way too?

I'll be thinking about your interview on Tuesday, Kitkat, and wishing you both the best...I'm sure you will have great news to tell us.

Leo speaks fluent Spanish/English. I don't speak spanish. I took 4 years throughout high school/college and even bought $300 worth of spanish tapes. I've improved some but long way to go. I read okay but spanish-speaking natives have a hard time understanding my spanish words due to my southern accent. Kind of funny. I hope one day to learn it. It is frustrating when I go down to Mexico and it's hard to join in on conversations.

Anyways - new week about to start - hope to hear good news for everyone.

Come on FBI- I'm so ready to bring Leo home to Nashville.

Hello Ladies! I've been spying here on this little Juarez forum for some time now. Haven't really jumped in cuz I haven't really had many questions. But now I do, and I think that maybe i can get the most info from you all because we are all in the same boat. (my fiance is in Hermosillo)

I am concerned about the Affidavit of support. the I-134 or I-894? I think those are the numbers. Anyways, I know that Juarez uses one specifically and not the other.

I've asked my question on other forums, but never quite gotten a complete answer. So here goes... If i take a full year of income I make enough to clear the poverty levels, and I have a small bit of assests. The problem is, because I was in school until the end of March this year I do not have a full year of income that I will report on my income taxes this year. And, i expect that we will have the interview before i file again. (Lets hope so anyways, never know with the CSC!) So... I was thinking that I need to have a co-sponsor, or something. I have two scenarios that might work. I live with my parents and My mom could be a sponsor, but I don't know if that includes my Dad and his income and then they'd have to count me and my three siblings and my fiance! So, then i don't they'd make enough according to the poverty line limits. So then that brings me to my aunt, i'm sure she & her hubby make enough, but how does that work? Does just she sign on as the co-sponsor, or do they do it as a family or a couple? It's so confusing.

Sorry so so many questions. Maybe someone can make sense of my rambling.

Thanks tons!

Danielle

Hi Danielle - CJD doesn't use either the I-134 or I-864. Instead they provide a list of what will qualify to prove the applicant will not become a public charge on form OF-167: http://usembassy.state.gov/CiudadJuarez/wwwfof167.pdf

I gave my fiance the I-134 anyway because it's easier that way, along with the other things listed. If you don't make enough, anyone with sufficient income (including their family + your fiance) is fine. Read through the guides regarding affidavit of support to be sure you understand the requirements.

So my fiance is leaving tonight, medical Monday and interview Tuesday. If we are lucky, he will find a way to get them to let him submit his waiver on Tuesday - if not he'll have to go back.

I told me I'll need a very detailed and complete report but more importantly it would be good if he could get my birthday right - after two and a half year, he still messes that up! :hehe:

KitKat, thanks for the quick answer. That helps. I guess I'm still confused though weather I will need the 'co-sponser' info or not. I suppose that it wouldn't hurt to have it. Do you think that I could just have my Aunt fill out the I-134 and supply that information in case he needs it?

I'm so excited to hear how the interview goes. Sorry you have to file the waiver. Is that because they "KNOW" your fiance was here too long? I didn't realize that was ok. I know a couple that did the K-1 and apparently the fiance had been here for quite some time but no one who mattered here knew it. Or something like that.

Blessings,

Danielle

Ladies I have another question, are our men required to have the military service record, paper, whatever? I have heard that they do and then I heard that they don't. Also KK, did you give him an updated letter of intent to marry? Is there a standard format? Ok that was more than one question. Good luck KK.

Danielle, the financial requirements are cut and dry - if you don't make above the poverty line, you will need a co-sponsor. The fact that they don't use the I-134 doesn't change the minimum requirements. So you only need your Aunt if that is your case.

He is filing the waiver due to a previous visa overstay (long story but very valid reason for doing so). They "KNOW" everything. The only situation where it's ok to overstay is if the out-of-status time is less than 180 days, otherwise a waiver is needed by law, unfortunately. I'm sure some people somehow get away with lying, but it's hard to prove you were in Mexico via paystubs or rent/phone/water/gas receipts if you were not there. Also, even if they don't find out at the actual K1 interview, chances are good they could find out at the AOS in the US, not to mention that you are required by law, penalty of perjury/fines/imprisonment to tell the truth on the forms and you are under oath at the interview. So I can't imagine how someone could do it, really, or would do it. Very risky.

Ladies I have another question, are our men required to have the military service record, paper, whatever? I have heard that they do and then I heard that they don't. Also KK, did you give him an updated letter of intent to marry? Is there a standard format?

No military service record requirement and the updated letter of intent is in the fiance packet on the website - he has to sign his there in front of them.

http://usembassy.state.gov/CiudadJuarez/wwwfcdj402.pdf

That's all for now . . . hope to have a medical exam update tomorrow - I've heard they ask very probing questions and look at every part of his body. Icky.
