How long to process 221 (g) in MTL

We had our interview in mid June and got 221(g) because of domicile issues.

Finally secured a place to live in the US and sent a copy of our lease, state drivers license, banking statements, and utility bills showing our address on them.

We have sent all of these documents back to MTL for review, along with our passports. (not sure if we were supposed to sent them as well, however at the interview the woman told us verbally to sent the documents and passports back to them...so that is what we did)

I hope if they open our package and find the documents and passports in there that they would work quickly to try and clear them and get us on our way.

Does anyone have an educated guess on how long this may take? Would it speed up the process to call the DoS or fax MTL??

Suggestions?

I have not been through your specific situation, but back a year ago, my medical was delayed and I had to mail it after my interview took place in Montreal. It took about 4 weeks between me mailing my documents and receiving my visa and passport back. It sat in the mail room for 2 weeks before it was logged as received, the rest was waiting for them to actually issue my visa and mail it back.

There is nothing you can do to speed things up. You can call DOS to know where your case is at, but they can't do anything. And as far as Montreal is concerned, you are back in the queue of pending applications and they will get to it when they do. Hopefully, it will be quickly. Good luck!

Over 100 views and only 1 reply...Are we the only ones who have ever got a 221g from MTL.??

Because there really is no answer-----Mtl tends to be slow at everything. Some people it only takes a few weeks after they mail the required info in....others it takes a month or so. More or less it boils down to----don't make any plans until you have the visa/passport back!! If you do a search, there is a # 1 can call to find out its status. And some USA citizens contact their congress person to check its status, etc etc

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hello, we received a 221g at the interview, but no reason was given (i.e. they weren't waiting on us to submit documents). You can see our timeline below.

It really doesn't help to do anything. Unfortunately, MTL receives mail off-site, and it is then sorted and delivered to the Consulate even later than the "delivery date" would indicate.

Believe me, I understand your pain. You've come so far and now you have to wait even longer than most. It's maddening. Hang in there, though...

My interview was in March, I submitted the required info (domicile and AOS) in first week of April which they received by April 15. Since then I am calling DOS only to find out that the case is in Administrative Processing. But this has more to do with my Asian background. Normally it takes from 3 to 8 weeks for the domicile related verification. This is I learnt from other threads on this forum (221g forum).

It took our senator to get involved to get ours moving, once he was on it they had our visas issued in 7 days from the time he contacted them.

Thankfully we poe'd within 24hrs of picking up our visas from the dhl location which was 2hrs from our previous home in Ontario, and are now happily setting up our new place 1500 miles away from where we used to be.

Good luck with everything.

Hi, How did you make out? I'm in a similiar situation. I couriered my additional documentation they requested November 9th, Loomis check confirms it was received on Monday, November 12th. I too am anxious as so much is in limbo. I'm trying to book flights for my husband and stepdaughters - and at some point I also need to give notice at work.

let me know how things are going? :)

if it takes longer than a month, contact them, and if that doesnt work, contact your senator.
