If one person at that movie theater had a gun, lives could've been saved and the guy would be dead. Now it's gonna be a 4 year trial etc.

Or it could have lead to other injuries or even deaths.

The guy had armor. You don't know if someone could have gotten a decent enough shot to kill him. Considering the chaos of the situation (loud, dark, a room full of smoke) .. you have no idea what would have happened if someone else started firing. So don't announce it like it's a fact.

Keep looking at life through those Canadian coloured glasses. If the shooter, regardless of his body armor took fire. Lives would have been saved. You know it and I know it. Kinda tough to shoot innocent people when you're be shot at.

I'm just not convinced. A pistol chambered in 9mm, .38, 10mm, .45 etc does not have the ballistic capability of making it through 3A armor. Also consider most people carry hollow point rounds (which under normal circumstances is a bigger stopper) that lack penetrating power.

If you go on to youtube you can see all sorts of crazy people putting handguns up to their chests while wearing the armor.

Now consider your eyes are burning, you can't see well etc.

So a chance is better than no chance?

Shock revelation: City of Aurora, Colorado would have arrested anyone who stopped the Batman massacre with a concealed weapon

Aurora, Colorado already has strict gun control laws on the books that make it:

• Illegal to carry a concealed weapon, even if you're a law-abiding citizen.

• Illegal to discharge a firearm in public unless you are a peace officer.

Thus, any person who would have shot James Holmes and stopped the massacre would, themselves, have been arrested as a criminal!

You would be in the same boat as George Zimmerman.

According to current Colorado law (http://www.coloradoceasefire.org/munilaws.htm), it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in all the following cities:

Aurora, Boulder, Broomfield, Colorado Springs, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Longmont, Northglenn, Pueblo, Thornton, Westminster, Wheat Ridge.

It is illegal to even OWN a large number of firearms in Thornton and Lafayette. In Aurora, it is illegal to carry a firearm in a vehicle! Thus, even driving to a movie theater with a firearm in your own car makes you a criminal.

Here are some of the other gun control laws that already exist in Aurora: (http://www.coloradoceasefire.org/munilaws.htm)

1. "Dangerous weapon" includes firearm

2. Revocation of license for furnishing a firearm to a minor or someone under the influence.

3. Window displays cannot include firearms with barrels less than 12 inches long.

4. Unlawful to carry concealed "dangerous weapon"

5. Unlawful to discharge firearms, unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range.

6. Unlawful to possess firearm while under the influence of intoxicant

7. Unlawful to have loaded firearm in motor vehicle.

8. Unlawful for a juvenile to possess a firearm.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

So seems to me the lawmakers there have blood on their hands.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So a chance is better than no chance?

Well if you look at the odds of this situation there was probably about 30-40% chance of getting shot in the cinema (I'm assuming the seating capacity was around 250). If you were further back and fell to the floor without rushing the exit your odds probably decreased to 10-20%.

Now lets say you were armed with a handgun and you chose to engage. Your odds of being shot skyrocket, probably upwards of 95%. Your odds of hitting the guy and injuring him are 1 in 1000 IMO.

I'll add a caveat - incendiary pistol rounds. That probably would have worked.

I know what Batman would have done. He would have shielded Robin and the popcorn they were sharing with his body armor while aiming at the shooter's legs with his lasso.
