I thought I would start a topic to see if it really makes a difference if you're active duty military. USCIS advises that we write across the top of the I-751 'ACTIVE MILITARY' and include a copy of our spouse's orders. Plus, it's someplace where everyone understands the frustrations of a PCS in the middle or a spouse that's AWOL from family life for most of the week.

Thanks in advance!

FWIW, we won't have a biometrics appt as we sent the fingerprint cards in with the application. I need to call the military helpline once I get back off of leave as our case number is not found on the USCIS website.

We received our biometrics letter today. I know that I couldn't find my case either. I'm going to try it now that I have the biometrics appointment.

I just added myself to the list (I hope I did it correctly). Mine definitely got approved quicker than normal. It took just over two months from the date I mailed my I-751 to getting approved :)

Well, I called the military helpline. They said that I won't get a status until I get the biometrics letter (we will never receive it because we did the fingerprints on base and sent it with the petition). So, we will never know until they send us an interview appointment. I was asking them questions about what if it gets close to the 1 year timeframe and the letter is almost expired. They told me that my wife would have to go to the US and a local USCIS office to get extended again. This is such a joke. they told me that doing the military processing doesn't affect the processing at all. Well, I hope that we get the appointment and new green card before I have to deploy...If not, we might have to start the whole process from the beginning.

Are you serious? That's contradictory to what's in the instructions for filing as AD military. Giggles had hers approved in 2 months. I hope it works out for you.

My guess is it will take awhile as Italians are extremely slow at doing anything. I will wait another month or 2 and then I will go bug the passport guy here on base. He talks with the consulate here quite often. He was the one that told me that they would most likely come up here for the interview instead of making us go to Rome.

Are there different instructions for AD military? Does this only apply if stationed abroad?

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Yes it is different for military stationed abroad. We wont get a biometrics appt. They have us get the fingerprints done on base and we send everything. In the instructions on the bottom of the first page and top of the second it shows for military stationed abroad. I also had to send passport photos for my wife.

I am in the same boat as you as my wife and I are in Italy (Naples), except I am on government orders, not AD... We received our NOA on the 11th of June and have heard nothing back... we also sent the fingerprints card, and everything else along with it the first time... i will give them a call soon to see what is going on as i have heard nothing from them at all.... a co-worker did this here and received the new GC back really fast 2-3 months?

When I called they told me that the case number that you get with the NOA1 doesnt show up in their system. They said I needed to go by the number for the biometrics appointment. Well, we won't get one of those, so we are still waiting.
