That's nothing. In Philippine society, you're an old woman and "half-presentable" past the age of 25. It's slowly changing since there are a lot of career women who marry late, but it is still there!!!..Men on the other hand is considered "undesirable" past the age of 30.

As you have stated, this is a "general statement" and does not necessarily mean that it applies to the entire population. This is a common belief, and not a law of ages in the Philippines. But like a bell curve, this applies to majority of the population with, of course, some exceptions like you as you say.

Let's look at China as this is what this topic is all about. Does this mean that women beyond 27 can no longer marry or date? Of course not! China and the Philippines are continously modernizing and old beliefs would continue to be replaced with new ones.

Hey Remigio buddy, in case you've overlooked this part of the article, do read again:

The survey showed that there were 180 million single men and women in China -- out of a population of 1.3 billion people -- and that 92 percent of men questioned believed that a woman should be married before the age of 27.

How about you? Where did you obtain your numbers and inferences from? unsure.gif Which Philippine agency did you help to conduct an ethnographic research with impartial and pertinent sampling? How did you derive the words "half-presentable" and "undesirable"? blink.gif

Tip: If you are gonna make a generalization about a country where you haven't lived for at least 25 years, if you have not known hundreds of people in both rural and urban areas in that country, and if you've never carried out real quantitative and qualitative studies there, then just use clauses such as "I've noticed after living in the Philippines for 10 years that some Pinoys are this and that," "I have limited experience but I can say that," "I think that there are several Filipinos who..." or simply start with "IMO."

If I were to follow your example of formulating a generalization, I'd say that divorced, burnt out American men over 45 seek young Filipinas to... Okay, never mind. Remember that it's already improper enough to trump up any generalization about any country, race or culture. So don't dare forge a generalization and make it sound like gospel truth, like you smugly did in your original post. innocent.gif

But you know what, your first comment might have made more sense 50 years ago, which in turn renders it irrelevant to mention in 2012 though. jest.gif

No skin in the game personally but wanted to point out the dangers of generalization as it goes both ways.

Some have said that there are about 18% more males than females in China. If that is correct then there will be millions of lonely men that will NEVER get a girl.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Blow up dolls are sure to be a big hit there.

I watched one of the episodes of the NatGeo series "Taboo" two years ago that featured "Love Dolls." That was utterly freaky and creepy. A few Taboo episodes more and I ditched the entire TV series. Although I applaud National Geographic for being so bold in researching and showing these things in an informative and objective manner, my mind doesn't wanna process extreme details, especially about bizarre erotic fetishisms. I still get a little curious every now and then about some strange practices, like when NatGeo aired a preview of Taboo's 8th season, hinting "puppy play" which may explore more about animal role play in BDSM. But I know I'm skipping it. There are things I really don't need or want to know.

Here's a clip from that Taboo episode: http://video.nationa...ngc-love-dolls/

That's exactly why I refrain from setting generalizations about the Philippines, its people and other societies across the globe.
