Hello everyone! My 9 years long distance boyfriend (now Husband) and I finally got married a couple weeks ago (L) , I have a K-1 visa and I have been in USA for 56 days. Now I am assembling the I-485 package for AOS and I have a couple questions that I hope you can help me with :help: .

As the instructions of the I-485 for says “If you are a K-1 fiancé who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant K-1 visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report”

BUUUT! When I had my medical examination, which I do not have any copy or receipt (I don’t know what @##$%& I was thinking :bonk: ) since is in a sealed package ,they never mention anything about getting additional vaccines or that my medical report wasn’t complete.

QUESTIONS:

1)So what should I do? I have copies of my medical records (normal records not USCIS stuff), should I send those? OR should I make an appointment with a USCIS doctor in my area?

2)If I do so, would I have to pay (again) the $85 USD for the medical examination? Or do I pay the doctor or both?

3)Do you just call and make an appointment or is there any special process to make the appointment?

THANK YOU!

Ale :D

Since Juarez does not give vaccinations to K-1 applicants and tends to give a blank DS-3025 or none at all, you will need to see a civil surgeon to have your vaccinations transcribed onto the I-693. You are not required to get a new medical, as stated in the I-485 and I-693 instructions. However, finding a CS that will not insist on giving you the whole exam again can be hard to find.

For AOS you need MMR, Tdap/TD, varicella(unless you had the chickenpox) and flu shot(only required during flu season Oct.-Mar.) You can have them done by the CS or go to family doctor or the health department to get them done cheaper. Just bring your vaccination records with you to your appointment with the CS.

You may have to call around to several and even some farther from your home before finding one that will do just the vaccination transcription. You can check through this massive thread to see if any of these are near you: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/231026-civil-surgeons-who-dont-rip-you-off/

Hi Jay-kay, since my husband has DS3025 filled out the vaccines for him and all the vaccinations are there on the form. Do I really need to transfer it to the form I-693 by civil surgeon? I called the place, they charge like $200 to transfer the information over. That is a lot of money and we both can't afford that much. So please help me in this regard. Thanks ahead.

To the above, yes, a civil surgeon has to at least transcribe the vaccinations for you onto the I-693. Charging $200.00 for that is ridiculous since having the entire exam done over again doesn't cost that much. We called around and weren't able to find anyone that would just do a transcription. We also wanted to ensure that everything was done right so my wife got another physical (even though it wasn't needed since it was done in Juarez) and got the required vaccinations. Quotes will vary widely depending on how many you call. Also, it was difficult to find a Civil Surgeon that would just give the vaccinations without doing a physical. You can print the list of Civil Surgeons from the USCIS website here: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV

When you call, just tell them you need to have immigration vaccinations done. Ask how much it costs and if a physical is required.

No. If you had all the required vaccinations at the time of your medical and they are all marked off on the DS-3025, then no need to see a civil surgeon. Just send in a copy of your DS-3025 with your AOS paperwork. Even if it is not marked complete, you still might not have to see a CS. 3)Do you just call and make an appointment or is there any special process to make the appointment?

Yes, you will need to call around, as I posted in the thread above. I forgot to mention though, you need to let them know you are adjusting from a K-1 and you are not required to get a new medical, as stated in the I-485 and I-693 instructions. Tell them you can print off the instructions and show them where it says you are not required to get a new medical. It can be tiresome and frustrating calling around to find one that won't insist on the medical and overcharging you, but it can usually be done. Some people give up and pay for and get the unnecessary exam to get it over with. Hopefully you can find one that won't rip you off.

Jay-Kay:

Thankyou so much for your help and for mentioning the necessary vaccines! Should I tellthe doctor that I do not need the other ones in the vaccination supplement? Isthat what you meant? I called the Dr andhe said he is willing to only do the vaccination supplement, so thank youagain!

Ale

PS: Sorry my question #2 didn’t make sense, so now when I send the AOS package I only need to send $985, right?

You are welcome. The CS should know what vaccines are required for AOS. They are listed on the CDC website. You can always mention the required ones if they try to give you others. You also only need one in a series, so if you need more than one shot for any of those spread out over time, you do not have to wait to send in your AOS paperwork until all the shots in the series are done. The CS should give you a copy and seal the I-693 in an envelope for you to include with your I-485 and other documents.

The cost for AOS is $1070, $985 filing fee + $85 biometric fee. Those are separate from whatever you have to pay for the I-693. Also, file for the EAD and AP at the same time. Their fees are waived when filing with a pending I-485: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos
