Why? There are quite plausible scenarios out there that his tax returns contain nothing illegal but very damaging politically. One of those is the possibility that Romney applied for amnesty for the late disclosure of offshore accounts.

its also plausible that obama's school records show he entered the university as a foreign student (for preferred treatment. i in no way support or believe the birther idiocy) and the fast & furious documents could show he had direct knowledge of the operation prior to the border agent being killed....plausibility sucks. unless obama is willing to put everything on the table, he needs to tell his minions to STFU.

Is there ANY politician that is truly transparent? Nope. None that has any shot at national office anyway. So in that very small way they are alike. In every other way they couldn't be more different. As I said, I am wholly unsatisfied with Romney but at least we have a very clear difference between the two candidates politics and world view.

That is what I said. Romney is just like Obama.

Why? Full financial disclosure by candidates for the highest office has a long tradition in this country that none other than Mitt's old man started decades ago. That's the issue at hand. There's really no plausible explanation I can think of why Mitt rather takes the heat than release the allegedly non-damaging tax returns. If there are no skeletons in that closet, then why not open it? Tell you what: he knows that disclosing would be more damaging than not disclosing. I believe that Mitt is a rational guy so it stands to reason that he is making rational decisions.

Now, school records, birth certificates and whatnot - that's a bunch of bullcrap that the right wing conspiracy nuts have raised once the White House was no longer reserved for the White Man. It's not even on the same level. Not even close.

then why are his records sealed? remember nothing to hide/no reason to hide. i noticed you skipped right over the fast & furious documents. are you aware of the fact WHITE PEOPLE are the reason obama is the president? and calling racism on everything is just ridiculous.

You do recall that this "report" on Obama receiving a scholarship at Occidental as a foreign student was an April Fools Day hoax, right? That was more than three years ago and it's as much a hoax today as it was then. How many more years will it take you to get that?

you know i dismiss all birther BS as BS. i'm just stating the same thing you are. if there is nothing to hide, why hide it? it just looks bad.

Sorry but this doesn't work. Financial disclosure is a decades old tradition. It's been honored by every presidential candidate for some 40 years. The question here is not whether or not Obama owes disclosure of school records but why Mitt feels that he is entitled to break a long standing tradition. Try and stay focused on the issue at hand or is that asking too much?

Doesn't it bother you at all that it is quite possible - in fact, probable - that a candidate for President may have applied for amnesty for illegally evading taxes? Is that not something that deserves to be cleared up? Is that not something that rides on a level way above what grades a sitting President may have had in school?

yes it does. romney has supplied what is required.

I guess Mitt will find out. As it stands, a solid majority of voters - including a solid majority of independent voters - feel that Romney ought to release these records. He can diss the voters, of course, but he might find out that that's a poor strategy. What's required of a candidate hoping to win the race for President is not exactly relevant. There's precedence, there's tradition and there's an expectation.

You see, you can go through your life and do only what's required of you. Nothing wrong with that at all. Doing only what's required would of course not earn you a promotion at work. And odds are that you won't end up occupying 1600 Penn Ave taking that approach either. ;)

He has until Oct 15th to file -- Plenty of time for you and the rest of the Obamanites to generate feigned outrage at his being richer than you before the first Tuesday in November. Romney already said he will release his return when it is ready to be filed.

It's not about the 2011 return. It's 2009 when the amnesty for illegal tax evasion was on. That's the return that would offer a glimpse into whether or not Mitt had previously undisclosed offshore accounts and had illegally evaded taxes. The UBS account specifically. You see, with the amnesty, he's off the hook legally and financially. Just not politically. Looks as if Obama set this up as his first act in office...

Romney only promised his 2011 return, so I guess your canard will go unanswerred well into November.

rofl.gifrofl.gif Yep... He should run on that. It's he only concrete thing he has been able to show the constituents.

On a positive note I don't think people are outraged, feigned or otherwise. I think people are a tad disappointed in that Romney is just another garden variety politician.

I am disappointed and I am sure I am not alone.

Perhaps it's best to not disclose financial stuff, this century?

I know it's 20 steps backwards, to not disclose anything, but OH what the playing field would look like, otherwise?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
