Hi everyone. I've already posted my list of what I'm bringing to Montreal (and didn't get any negative comments about it, so I'm assuming I'm not forgetting anything, lol) so this isn't really about that. I want (and perhaps need) to know how those who have already gone to their interview dealt with the anxiety. I've been stressing about it since I got the interview letter which is only natural I assume because this is a HUGE deal. There's a part of me that is extremely excited because this could very well mean we are in the home stretch and have the "ok" to get on with our life together. However, there is another part of me that's being a pessimist and afraid we're not going to get the visa. There really is no reason why we shouldn't, but it's just one of those fears. I don't want to go into the interview all cocky and sure I'm going to leave with my visa, however, I do want to be (and appear to be) confident during the whole process. I'm scared that my nerves may get the best of me and therefore make me look like I'm uncertain about it all. Anway, I suppose this was a partial vent as well. I'm excited, really I am, but I believe the fear and anxiety is overpowering that excitement. Please, if you could share your experiences (not at the Consulate, I've already read all of the reviews) and what you did in order to calm yourself/your nerves. I would greatly appreciate it (and I'm sure Bruce would too :P ).

I can't give advice on our experience obviously, haven't been there, but my thoughts on the subject are that I imagine MOST people look nervous, and they're used to it. I also see many post saying it was "anti-climatic" and the build up was for nothing. Relax if you can, try not to drink too much caffeine, try some camomile tea! and soon this will all be a memory you can look back on and think WOW why did I get so worked up?

Obviously I can't offer you any advice since I haven't had my interview yet, but I wanted to echo what Married_my_love said, and say that they probably expect you to be nervous. I remember reading a customer service statement that said exactly that:

We will remember that, to you, a visa interview may be a new or intimidating experience and that you may be nervous.

You'll do just fine, excited or nervous! I'm sure some of the others here can share their experiences with you..

I recently had my K3 interview and there was nothing to be nervous about. If you have all of your documents in order, and there aren't any abnormalities that might require a waiver or something, and your relationship is real, well... Even if there happens to be a screw-up like you need further documentation, it might take a little more time, but it doesn't seem like Canadians have much to worry about. :)

I wasn't thast nervous, thanks to VJ!! I knew I had all the paperwork (and back up paperwork) I didnt have a checkered past, thus I didn't see why I would be denied, I realize it could happen, but it wouldn't be the end of the world, but was an extremely slim chance. The interview is the easiest part of the whoil eprocess if your prepared, and it appears you are. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I went through Vancouver so I can't give you any advice specifically for Montreal but I can give you advice regarding being nervous ...

I was nervous and excited at the same time ... After it all, I thought to my self, why did I get so wound up over that ... What really helped me was the fact that I was sitting with 2 other K-1 applicants and we kept each other company prior to each of our interviews ... And I got to go second and because the way Vancouver is layed out I was able to listen to the first K-1 applicant's interview and that really relaxed me ...

Ya they jam ya back in the corner and you are walking over each other ... And to make it worse it was the summer and the air conditioning wasn't working so great and it was very warm ... We were joking that it was a lab experiment to see if we would crack under the heat :)

that picture up there of the deer is probably what I looked like.

My interviewer actually asked me if I was nervous and I said yep, because if I was denied, that'd be the end of it, cuz Hubby couldn't move to Canada :P Then of course she asked me why and I told her because he had a juvenile record which made him inadmissable, and then she asked me if I had a record and I said Nope.

That was about it, but I don't think I actually relaxed until I walked out of the consulate with my visa in my hand. I hadn't slept the night before, and my breakfast had made me feel nauseous, but I survived, and so will you

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
