Unemployed American Fiance

Hello everyone,

My fiance and i currently live in Japan. In 2 weeks time he will fly home to the US after 4 years abroad, and file from there. His contract in Japan officially finishes about 4 days before he gets home. We intend to file the day after he arrives home, to get things going, but, unless he is able to find and start a job within 24 hours of arrival, he will be unemployed when he submits.

I have a couple of questions about his unemployment status. I understadn that his (willing) parent will need to act as co sponsors. Is this needed when we submit the initial paperwork, or only when we submit further paperwork, if he is not earning above the threshhold by then?

Is it likely to hold up our process at all, even though he will have technically only been unemployed 4 days by the time of submission?

Is it better to wait until he finds a job, even if this will delay the process? (I know you cannot choose the speed, but if I get my visa within a year

I only have to make one international move, not two, which is ideal).

Thanks.

Violet :)

His parents don't need to be co-sponsors. Anyone he knows that's a USC can be one, just to clarify :) And the co-sponsor information is not needed until the time of the interview, NOT with the initial paperwork.

Co-sponsors have no impact at all on the speed of acquiring your visa.
