You should not make any plans to fly until the visa is in hand, who knows how long it will take to get the visa.

Good luck

To answer your question, yes to all of the above. However, unless you're somewhat independently wealthy, it's just not a good idea to buy plane tickets before the visa is in hand. It's not just a case of her not being approved, but sometimes it takes longer than others to get the visa in hand. The person ahead of you might get the visa in 2 days, and yours might take two weeks. Why chance it? Go over there if you want, support her ahead of the interview, and then buy tickets when she gets her passport with visa back. Once she gets over here, you'll want to use that $1,200 you'd have wasted on a plane ticket on putting your new household together or a nice honeymoon. :)

If she gets approved she will pick up her visa the following afternoon (2pm - 3pm) seeing how that's the standard at the Warsaw embassy. I would be surprised if she didn't have any personal items that she wants to take with her so that means a trip back home after the interview. If that's the case keep in mind it's much cheaper to fly to the states out of Kyiv or Moscow than it is from Minsk.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Like others, we tried that and bought two tickets, one for wife, one for daughter. Thought we were approved, went to pick up, nope not there. After several days or finding out what happened, and changing planes tickets at $300 a whack, there was a slight glitch w/ her birthday vs. the documents (off by one day) so they had to go back to the State Dept and see if there were any immigration violations or problems w/ an Iryna.... born on 3/2 not 3/3 blah, blah, blah. So while we thought we'd leave on Tuesday, we left on Friday.

Since I've been here, there have been more than a few RUB filers who got burned on buying return tickets before the visa was issued, and the other sub-forums have had their share too. If you can comfortably absorb the cost of re-booking or buying new tickets, then sure, go for it. Otherwise, hold off.

Not usually a good idea to buy tickets based upon some government official doing his job in a timely manner.

Also, there is a very big chance that she will want to go home to say proper goodbyes and pack all of her necessaries. Traveling there to support her during the interview is a nice gesture but not necessary. Make sure she has all the documents and information about your background and she will be fine. Then use all that money saved for a nice honeymoon. She will appreciate that more than you sitting in an outer office waiting for her to finish the interview.

We bought tickets a week out. Picked up the visa in two days in Kiev. Just allow time for delays.

We knew this was a gamble, and I would advise a carefull conversation about travel back, goodbyes, etc before buying tickets. We didn't want to wait, and Vika took care of all her business before leaving for the interview. IMO it comes down to your preference.
