Maybe describe the circumstances of the meeting? Although really the only requirement is the submission of proof that a meeting occurred a maximum of 2 years before filing the petition.

You do need to describe the circumstances of meeting. (I-129F, Question 18 http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129f.pdf).

You are right that the only proof required is the proof of meeting, but it is important to write something about how you met. Ours was only one sentence long. If this was missing for the OP's petition they might RFE, even though she has lots of proof of having met.

i wonder if you have wrote the history of your relationship progression? or do you think it is detailed enough?

Example. We meed online and communicated via chat and phone for 10 months. I went to visit her / him in his home town and we meet face to face on 3/4/11.... etc, maybe a bit more detail, but they are just looking for here on the HOW as to the age old question "how did you guys meet?"

Is this because you are the beneficiary? If your fiance filled in the form they would know what was written there, since they would have signed the form before it was sent.

No, I'm the petitioner, and there is nothing unusual about our case (no criminal history, financial problems, etc). Although I gave a brief relationship progression history to the lawyer, I can truthfully say I don't know what they wrote on our behalf. I did email the legal assistant last night and asked her to send me a copy of the RFE. If they really need proof of meeting and not circumstances of meeting, I'm led to believe that either the lawyer didn't file some of our evidence or CSC lost something. Or Paul could be right, maybe the adjudicator was having a bad day.

And yes, even before the RFE, I had planned to dump the lawyer. VJ has been exponentially more helpful than he ever was. I just wish I would have found you guys before filing!

RFE.pdfThe lawyer just sent the RFE and I talk to the legal assistant again. She said everything in our package was sent, so either she's not telling the truth or CSC lost something. I've attached a copy of the RFE so you guys can see what it says. I'm going to resubmit all of the evidence plus full copies of my passport and his, the boarding passes that I found last night, and credit card statements from my visits there. Rob only carries cash, so he's not going to have any credit card statements. The RFE says we didn't submit the identification page- we did, but I guess it could have gotten lost. I should have this puppy in the mail by tomorrow. Edited by Cori and Rob

I think after reading the RFE, it sounds like they saw passport stamps but maybe not the biographic page with your name and photo to indicate it was your passport. I certainly didn't send every blank page but I did have a statement on every photocopy page "I certify this is a true copy of my US passport". And I signed/dated every photocopied page.

It's all a little nit-picky in some ways, isn't it?

Read the second paragraph carefully!

You have submitted copies of the passport page; however, you did not submit the identification page.
Submit all passport pages (with or without stamps) including the identification page.

Make a copy of the entire passport, including the covers, and submit it. This helps eliminate any suspicion that you're submitting random pages from somebody elses passport.

Ignore the part about "film-dated photographs". That's a generic description that's been obsolete for a long time. There was a time when having a camera imprint an image of the date onto the film was considered to be a fairly reliable way of verifying when the photo was taken. Changing a date that's been imprinted on the film required a darkroom and editing equipment. Although it was relatively easy to change the date in the camera, if a photo was taken more than two years ago then it's unlikely that the photographer would have had the foresight to set the camera date forward unless they knew they'd be sending a petition more than two years in the future. If the photo was taken less than two years ago then it already meets the requirements, and there would be no point in fudging the date. Nobody uses film cameras anymore, but USCIS never got around to updating their canned list of evidence. Writing the date, location, and who appears in the photos (as you said you've done) is all that's needed.

I hope you get it fixed soon.

I agree that VJ is good, it helped me!

I think it's weird that you have to sign something and you don't know what was written. I don't think I'd ever do that.

In the grand scheme of things this is a minor setback and your fiance will have the visa soon.

Best of luck with everything! :)

We actually wrote a 1 page answer to one of the questions in the form explaining how we met and how we saw each other for the first time and how our relationship went from there, it's one of the requirements. Also did you submit a copy of your passport like you did for your fiancee? Not just the one with the stamps but the one required at the beginning with the birth certificate and picture?

I agree, are you sure the RFE is for proof of meeting or is it for the written circumstance of meeting? Tell your lawyer to send you a copy of the RFE. Perhaps they want to know HOW you met, not DID you meet. Both are required.

very good observation
