SEATTLE (AP) — Two Seattle men say they spent more than two hours in a detention center at the Canadian border after U.S. border agents discovered illegal chocolate eggs in their car.

Brandon Loo and Christopher Sweeney told KOMO-TV they decided to bring home some treats for friends and family during a recent trip to Vancouver, British Columbia. They bought Kinder Eggs — chocolate eggs with a toy inside.

The two men say border guards searched their car and said the eggs are illegal in the United States because young children could choke on the small plastic toys. Importing them can lead to a potentially hefty fine.

Sweeney says the bust was a waste of his time and the agents' time. The men eventually got off with a warning.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman declined to comment about the case Tuesday night.

The agency warned on its website around Easter that the treats can't be imported legally.

The agency says it seized more than 60,000 Kinder Eggs from travelers' baggage and international mail shipments in fiscal 2011.

I know they are banned, but why hold them for 2 hours? I think that is a bit unnecessary. I could see if they were importing cases of them but a couple they were bringing back for family? They could have just confiscated them and given them the warning, without detaining them!

Well clearly they have irradicated all the terrorists and now they have time to concentrate on the real problem - KINDER EGGS!

I totally agree with your comment - I wish there was footage of them eating all the eggs they confiscate later :)

Often when my fiance comes to visit here in Canada, we will get some Kinder Eggs to eat. Around Easter we even got one of those giant size ones - you know the ones that have a HUGE toy in them and tons of chocolate. So good! He brought the toys back with him but not the chocolate - but I don't think the toys themselves are an issue, just having them be inside the chocolate. I hope not anyway. Regardless I think in the future we'll avoid even bringing the Kinder toys across. What am I going to do when stuck in the USA AGH! Can't even be mailed Kinder Eggs! Will just have to wait for AP then ;)

I love Kinder eggs! I was really dissapointed when I found out that the US doesn't carry them. They were so popular when I was little. :P

I was always a little disappointed by Kinder Eggs. I'd always get the stupid cardboard jigsaw puzzle while everyone else got the cool little plastic cars or animals. Also I was never a huge fan of their chocolate -it always seemed a little plastic-y to me.
