From F-1 OPT to J1

Hello guys,

I am an Italian guy who has undergraduated in Italy but obtained a Master of Science in Marketing in a college in New York City. I am now under my OPT period which will expire on January 31st, 2013. Two weeks ago my employer has decided to sponsor me for the H-1, but unfortunately the cap has already been reached (makes me REALLY SAD). I cannot even apply next April 2013 for the H1 for 2013 since my OPT expires in January 2013. I have to find a solution to stay here which is not another F-1 so people have told me about the J-1. Is that doable? My employer would sponsor me for that and I have a close friend who has obtained a J1 after the OPT. What are your advices? Thank you in advance for even reading this.
