for all of you that are in the process or will be in the process of petitioning your parents to come to the United States, this is my I-130 journey - you can also find this in my "about me" page in my profile

I-130 for Parents Journey:

February 06, 2012 - mailed the petitions for my parents

*** after 17 days

Febuary 23, 2012 - the petitions has been received by USCIS

*** after 1 day

February 24, 2012 - the checks that were issued $420(each) has been cleared in our checking account

*** after 115 days (almost 4 months)

June 18, 2012 - petitions were approved and that it has been forwarded to National Visa Center for visa processing

*** after 37 days

July 25, 2012 - received an email from NVC Inquiry (NVCInquiry@state.gov): addressed to parents (applicants)

- that the petition is now eligible for visa processing (both parents)

- email assigned a case number: MNL****** (diff case number for each parent)

- Form DS-3032 - Choice of Address and Agent needs to be filled out and mailed

*** same day

July 25, 2012 - received an email from NVC:

- need to pay Affidavit of Support(AOS) processing fee

- with AOS processing fee invoice that contains the invoice number - $88(both parents)

- copy of Form DS-3032 - Choice of Address & Agent - for petitioner's reference

*** after 6 days

July 31, 2012 - emailed DS-3032 to parents for them to print then fill out - assigning me(petitioner) as their agent.

This was done because I found out that in some countries, it could take as long as 1-2 months before the actual mail containing the DS-3032 from National Visa Center to arrive in the applicants(parents) address.

*** after 2 days

August 02, 2012 - parents mailed the already filled out DS-3230 for each of them to:

National Visa Center

Attention ACL

31 Rochester Ave., Suite 200

Portsmouth, NH 03801

*** same day

August 02, 2012 - I paid the $88 AOS processing fee online (for both parents) and was able to generate a cover sheet with barcode for each of my parents

*** after 6 days

August 08, 2012 - I finally was able to complete I-864 and I-864A for each of them with the following supporting documents:

- I-864 Coversheet (with barcode)

- Form I-864 (Signed and dated)

- Letter of Employment of the sponsor(petitioner-ME)

- Pay stubs from the most recent six months of the sponsor

- I-864A from the spouse(household member)

- Letter of Employment of the spouse(household member)

- Pay stubs from the most recent six months of the spouse(household member)

- 2011 Tax Transcript of sponsor and household member (joint)

- 2010 Tax Transcript of sponsor and household member (joint)

- 2009 Tax Transcript of sponsor and household member (joint)

Note: Separate copies attached to each of the I-864 and I-864A for each parent

*** after 1 day

August 09, 2012 - mailed the document through express mail (overnight delivery)to:

National Visa Center

Attn: CMR AOS

31 Rochester Avenue Suite 100

Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are about to send the AOS packet(I-864EZ) for my mother-in-law. Just wanted to know that my mother-in-law has e-mailed to NVC her DS 3032(choice of agent form)rather than mailing the physical copy, so is that OK or she has to post mail the form. I read that it takes couple days to a week for NVC to acknowledge the e-mail and to appoint the agent.

Thank You,

-Bani :star:

  • 1 month later...

I sent the package for both my dad and mom in one envelop. Few days ago I received the case number for my dad but nothing for my mom yet. I also received AOS email for my dad only. I have been waiting for news regarding my mom's case since then. It's weird that their cases are being handled separately.

Should I wait until I get NVC email with my mom case number to proceed both of them or should I go ahead with my dad's case only and pay the AOS fee?

Same thing happened with my parents petitions. Dad's case was adjudicated first & so his was assigned a case number, IIN weeks before my mom's. I paid the AOS fee an hour after NVC sent me an email of mom's case number etc. I wanted to be sure that when I paid the fee it will pull up mom's case along side dad's. You only need to pay one AOS fee for multiple petitions (cases).

Thanks Let-it-be! Luckily, we only have to pay AOS once hehe. I will continue to wait then. How many weeks gap between NVC emails for your mom and your dad?

It was just 9 business days (14 days). Around that time, I felt like it was taking so long. In the end, once I paid the aos fee, everything seems to be progressing well than I anticipated.

01/14/13 - DS-3032 & IIN invoiced (email)

01/14/13 - emailed DS-3032 & paid AOS fee (In-Process)

01/18/13 - mailed AOS packet

01/29/13 - received DS-3032 acceptance email

01/30/13 - received IV invoiced email & paid (In-Prcoess)

I am so excited that I finally get to petition my dad to come live with my husband and I.

I have a couple of questions regarding the I-130 form.

My dad is a widowed. What do I write in the space for Date and place of present marriage? Should I write the date he married my mom? or it should not apply anymore?

how about name of prior spouse and the date the marriage ended?

In the field to write List of spouse and children of relative, do I still put mom even though she passed away?

Thank you for your help!

Your mom doesn't need to fill up G-325 A form. That form is only needed if you are petitioning a spouse.

For initial paper works in petitioning your parent (MOM). You need the following:

1. You fill up Form I-130

2. A photocopy of YOUR NSO Birth Certificate

2. A photocopy of YOUR Marriage Certificate (as proof of legal name change)

3. A photocopy of YOUR Certificate of Naturalization or US passport

4. The Check of $420

Hi Let-it-be, I just rcvd the case number for my mom. Thanks God! I'm going to pay AOS fee right now.

I noticed in your timeline you typed "emailed DS3032". I also want to ask my parents email their Choice of agent (which is me) instead of mailing the forms. So did your parents emailed to NVCinquiry? Is it an easier and quicker way?

Yes, we emailed the Choice of agent to NVCInquiry from my parents email accounts. I think it is easier & quicker to send it by email versus by mail.
