My brother is the cosponsor for my fiance and he is understandably concerned about all of his personal and financial information being sent through the mail. I am sending my documents too, but I feel responsible for making sure all of his information is protected. What is the best way to mail all of our documents for the visa interview? They are going to South Korea. Can they be sent by certified mail? Can I send them directly to the embassy? Can they be scanned and sent electronically? Thanks.

Can I send them directly to the embassy?

No

Can they be scanned and sent electronically? Thanks.

Forms will likely require an original signature. However, there is no requirement that I know of that documentation be original. So with that being said, the documentation can be scanned and emailed, but it will have to be printed out and hand carried to the interview by your fiance.

I can use Fedex. The problem is just that my brother is worried about his paperwork being intercepted and basically his life being ruined if someone steals his identity. I know people have to send paperwork to other countries all the time, but it is a legitimate concern. I want to find out what methods other people have used to send their documents because I want to send them in the most secure way I can.

My fiance sent the original documents via Fed Ex from South Dakota to Albania, and they arrived safe and sound...

Now if you talk about the fees, they are ridiculous, 218$ for 20 pages?! :wow::angry:

It was express shipping and it arrived in here in 6 days

There's also regular post service but that takes longer...Good luck!

Most secure way is to hand carry them yourself as carry-on. Next is to hand carry them yourself as checked luggage. Next secure way is to use FedEx. Next secure way is to use the USPS International mail service. Then just mail them. You will notice that the costs come down as the risk goes up. I understand his concern. When I applied for my passport renewal I sent the package registered. I was behind a woman who was sending her kids passport application in and needed it ASAP, but sent the application prioity as she was concerned about the few extra dollars but was paying something like $70 to expidite the application.

We used FedEx at about $100 each way for the documents that we needed to send in with signatures. If it is of real concern, then buy a plane ticket and hand deliver them. The benefit is you get to see your financee again.

Good luck,

Dave

For my fiancee's recent K-1 interview in Guangzhou, China, I hand carried my documents in my carry-on luggage. Obviously, not cheap....but, it was another visit together, which is always good. Additionally, I wanted to support my future partner at an important event in our relationship.

Good luck,

YMMV

I mailed everything overnight express to make sure my husband received the papers. They arrived quickly and signature was required to show he received them. It isn't cheap, but it is important enough to not worry about trying to save a few dollars.

No matter how you get them to the country, there will always be a risk. Unfortunatly you dont have any other choice.
