Does anyone know if the passport in kingston is open on Saturdays to pick up passports or just opened at all?

Not opened at all on Saturdays. Government offices shut down on weekends and usually close by 4 or 5 during the week.

Hey, I have a question and thought maybe one of you could answer it here. Is it true that if I wanted to plan a trip for my fiance and I, (he being in Jamaica with passport only and no visa at this point) he can travel anywhere within the Caribbean with his passport only? Say for instance: I fly to Jamaica to meet him. WE both board a plane in Jamaica and fly straight to Bahamas or Dominican Republic, vacation, and then fly back to Jamaica. Can we do that??

Absolutely possible...if you can find non-stop flights directly to the country you'd like to visit. I considered doing a trip to Panama and having my fiancé meet me there, but I decided on just waiting until he's here. It's not only Caricom countries that no visa is required for JA passport holders. There are some other countries as well (very few). The time limit in the country depends on what's given by the Immigration officer of the arriving country.

FYI there is a scam going on and there is a location in Kingston taking money regarding passports within the office on Saturdays. There is also a police officer involved that I do have the full name of. Contact with this office has not been positive but we keep trying.

I wonder if there is anything going on in Jamaica that isn't involving a scam these days. So sad of yet another one.. I would hope that the average person would know that no JA Gov't office are open on week-ends (at least you would hope for that)....

No surprise to me. Seems like too many persons these days are so consumed with greet that they will resort to whatever means to make money. It really saddens me to hear of all these scams going on in my country. For an island of this size there are just too much wrongs going on.

I do hope though that your husband gets through with his passport very soon so things can start moving smoothly along for you guys.

It may or may not be a scam. There are hundreds of privately owned businesses that provide passport services throughout the island. They accept applications, fees and courier the items to the passport offices in Kingston. They're like the middle man. I know this to be a fact because my fiance used one when his passport expired. The one he used was an office near his area -- they did everything -- people could even pay down on their passport fees and then pay it off at a later time. This is something very common in Jamaica. I never knew they even still did payment plans on airplane tickets at travel agencies in Jamaica, until last year. This may even be one of the places that could be open on a Saturday.

I have never heard of this service either? I know that my husband went to the tax office in Sav for his. Not sure if I would use any service that I am not 100% familiar with.

Neither would I. Too many unscrupulous persons out there, so you have to be extra careful.

These services do exist and they are legitimate. People who live in rural parishes and have never been to Kingston sure appreciate these service. The extra money you pay is about the same cost of your bus fare. Not knowing your way around the city can be intimidating especially if you have to take public transportation.
