Has anyone come over on a K3 and went back to do CR-1 in Thailand? I really want to know if anyone has been successful at this. I'm worried because of the recent political turmoil there and how it may affect things at the embassy. I know others have been successful in other countries but I'm interested in specificially Thailand. I've read through the Sawasdee thread but couldn't find anything. Most of the people there are K1-ers. I'm hoping I can find some answeres here. Thanks.

Let me get this straight, If you enter the USA on a K-3 Visa. Dont you just do an AOS here in the states? Why return to the consulate for CR-1 interview?

See the AOS guide, no need to leave the country for the CR-1 do the AOS here.

Once you enter the states on the K-3 you do not need to return for the CR-1 interview, you file for adjustment of status here, that is what the K-3 visa is for.

There are pros and cons to both options: doing AOS here and going back for CR-1. I've read all the guides here and I'm weighing my options, that's why I want to know if anyone has done it before. Hearing other people's experiences will help.

The big negative I see is the added cost of a round trip ticket to Thailand, if the 2 interviews come up close to each other you may just want to decide to stay there and do the CR-1 with out using the K-3.

See this person's post, the CR-1 was 2 weeks later than K-3, http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37058

Hope helpful.

I'm sorry I cant help wit this but just for you to know - political reform does not effect everyday life in Thailand ot the US embassy - :D

K-1 = 4 months

AOS = 5 months

I-751 = almost one year

Elena,

I don't know of any K3 who has gone back to Thailand for their immigrant visa, but I don't see any issues with it. The coup is certainly not a relevant issue.

I wanted my wife to do this when my I-130 was approved, because I wanted an excuse to go back to Thailand for a visit, but she had no interest in that and preferred to stay in the USA for an adjustment interview with the USCIS.

YuAndDan,

Some people prefer to return to their home country for an immigrant visa for any number of reasons. High on the list is that for some people it can be the quicker route to PR status. For others it is a good opportunity to go back for a visit with family and friends, a visit that they would like to make anyway.

What a K3 visa is for is to come to the USA as a non-immigrant to re-unite the family while waiting for the I-130 petition to finish processing - it used to take a lot longer than it does today.
