I am getting ready to fill out I-134 and I do have a co-sponsor. I am not officially employed but I am working some hours doing various different things on a freelance basis- ie tutoring, translating, and nannying. I don't consider myself 'self employed' or 'unemployed'. What do I answer in the forms? In any case I don't have a letter from an employer stating my salary or yearly income. What to do?

Thank you for your advice!!!

I assume you do this all under that table, correct? In that case you have no proof to send in. You can send in a letter explaining yourself, but it will not do much to prove income. However with a co sponsor it really doesn't matter.

I just went under the Casablanca Embassy information page and here is what it said your fiancé will need before his interview which includes the I864 form in his packet 3 that he will receive eventually. It's exactly the same info my fiancé received almost two years ago.

Packet 3 Contains

One Appointment letter with interview date.

1. The DS-156 (2copies)

2. DS-156K for K1 visa (not used for K3)

3. DS-157

4. DS-230 Part I

5. Medical Exam instructions/list of doctors

6. An instruction sheet explaining that the applicant needs the following for the interview:

- passport (valid at least 6 mos. beyond visa issuance)

- birth certificate

- police certificate

- court record certificate/Segel Adli (obtained from town/city of birth)

- two color photographs (full face, 2 inches square or 5x5 cm)

- any marriage/death/divorce decrees

- if not married, a certificate of singlehood/Shahadat Al3ozoba

- medical exam results (the doctor's office sends this directly to the consulate)

- evidence of relationship (pictures, letters, e-mails, call history, chat history, etc.)

- certified translations of any docs not in English

- an instruction sheet that asks for the signature of the applicant (although they don't take it when you/your fiance(e)

- I864 Affidavit of Support and supporting documents *not listed in packet 3, but required as of 6/2010 for K1 visas, per my phone convos with the consulate*

You will not DO the I134 okay.... You will certainly 100% need to get your co sponsor to do the I864 and they will submit all income requirements and documents needed. I also read somewhere you wrote asking if the co sponsor is required to help out when your fiancé gets here. Your co sponsor is not your POCKETBOOK or BANK to provide for the two of you, that is your responsibility as the USC. How do you plan to bring him here with no job and money to support him, car, home, food, clothes, AOS fees of $1080.00 after You marry and file. He cannot help you as he cannot even work when he gets here until he gets his EAD work authorization and it took my husband over a year now to find work after waiting so long for his EAD card.

If I were you, I would have a job before his interview as Casablanca may feel you can not fully support him once he gets here and will deny his visa.

Hopefully others who have been through CASABLANCA.will chime in on your situation. It's great that you have a co sponsor, but you do need a job should he get approved as its not the responsibility of the co sponsor to help you financially.

Thank you so much for your insights guys. My intention isn't to be irresponsible, if that is what it seemed like. I don't remember asking if the co-sponsor is required to help when my fiance gets here. I do have a co-sponsor but I don't expect them to have to help us financially. We have enough to start out and will do our best to show the CO, for sure. I am just trying to figure out how to fill out I-134 and I-864 right now and get things in order. I really appreciate your advice and the support I find here.

Thanks!

Again, the I134 is NO longer being used at the Consulate In MOROCCO since June of 2010. I did both in 2010, but consulate only wants I864.

Good luck

You and the co-sponsor of the 864 need not help financially until your fiance becomes a public charge and the US government seeks to be re-paid for the welfare / services. The 864 sponsorship expires only upon your fiancee earning 40 credits with social security (10 years working) or the fiance becomes a US citizen.

This isn't meant to be 'under the table' I am just now making enough to pay my first quarter taxes as freelancer (meaning, I will be considered self-employed then). I am not officially self employed now. So I am confused as to what I should do, although I am thinking of meeting with an officer of the IRS to discuss it and see if I can get a letter or something. It's important to me to have things 'on the table' as my intention is to be as transparent as possible.
