Hello Everyone,

I'm Violet, American husband to be is Richard. We are just gathering the paperwork now so he can file a K1 in a few weeks. I'm from New Zealand, and we both currently living in Japan. He's flying back to the US in August, so we are hoping to have the paperwork sorted so he can file the day after he arrives home.

We are on a timeline, due to Japanese visas, of one year. If we haven't received it in one year, we may need to cancel the application, and start the whole process again from New Zealand, so I'm really, really hoping we manage to get it on time (from what I can tell, Tokyo processing times are usually well below that).

Anyway, we want to thank visa journey for being a huge help!

You won't need to cancel, you would update your address and request your case be handled wherever would then be the consulate that handles your new address. This is not ideal, as I've read stories of paperwork getting lost in transition and such, so best of luck that it will all go through smoothly! Just no need to cancel and pay the fee and wait out the 3+months at USCIS again is all I was saying!

Jep, you just update your info, both with USCIS and to make sure(when getting the NOA2) update/confirm with NVC(National visa center) so the petition gets sent to the right embassy where you reside.

Processing time goes up and down throughout the year. Sometimes VSC is the slowest turtle of the 2, other times CSC.

Welcome and have a smooth journey. :)

IMO, getting married in Japan then filing the I-130 to the lockbox in Chicago, showing 'filed from abroad' status, will have her a visa in under 4 months. An immigrant Visa, a CR-1. Think about that, as yer planning. No, it's not DCF.

See http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/357465-usc-petitioner-living-abroad/ and study the entries on the filers from Japan.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
