I-551 green card temporary stamp

I lost my green card. I started applying the replacement. However it takes time. I have planned my trip overseas. I was told I can get a temporary stamp on my passport. I am kind of worried about this. Is this stamp well recognized by other countries, esp China? Has everybody had similar experience? Can anyone post a picture of this stamp so that I know what it looks like? Thank you.

Why would China care about your green card? You need it to get back into the states, not to enter another country.

Each International Terminal in China Airports has passport control - they won't let you board the plane with out the proper documents.

As Darnell said China requires all departing international passengers to clear passport control. They check to see that each traveler (foreign and citizen) has the documentation necessary to enter the destination country, crazy right?

In actuality it's the same in the US, except the airline does it. They check the travel documents of each passenger to ensure they have the right entry documents. I understand that the airlines can be fined if a passenger is rejected for lack of legal entry documentation.

So China would care that the OP had documentation to boeallowed entry in to the US.

Ah, gotcha. Bolivia and Panama didn't give two craps about my husband's GC, so. Anyway, an I-551 stamp is valid and they have to accept it. I'd leave extra time, though, since if you get someone not familiar with it they may need to call in a supervisor, etc.

Agreed. It's the same when I leave Finland - when I do the check-in, the airline personnel check my documents to enter the US, and if they aren't in order, I would not be allowed ti board the flight. I had a slight issue with this when I first used my EAD/AP combo card - the woman who was looking at my documents did not recognize it or know what it was, so she had to call her supervisor who then had to check with someone else to verify that the former paper AP had been changed to the combo card. This took me probably an extra 30 min before I was allowed to finalize the check-in, so best to just make sure you have a bit more time than usual at the airport.

Thank you everyone... Yes. China has very strict boarder control. Without proper documents they recognize to enter the destination country, people can't even go through the immigration checking, not mention to board the plane. If anybody has any experience using this temporary stamp with China immigration, you are welcome to post your experience here.

Should be widely recognized by passport control at PEK or PVG.

Print this and bring it with you. If the officer at the counter doesn't understand ask for the Supervisor.
