Please whatever you do , don't make pasta salad from a box!

I like my chefs seasoned chiefly with ground black pepper, and perhaps just a touch of garlic salt, si man...

You should consider serving a meal from your country/region, with many choices. This option offers the opportunity for guests to try something new, but also something to eat/enjoy if they don't care for certain items.

Given that my wife hails from Indonesia and is an extraordinary cook, her cuisine has been a huge hit with family and friends over the years. She has also mastered the art of Sushi preparation, Thai, Malaysian and Chinese cooking. No wonder I have been fighting weight gain....

You must be one of those people who wish that Padma Lakshmi would absentmindedly lick her lips or suck on her finger while she's demoing a recipe on Top Chef.
"Padma Lakshmi" sounds like Indian food, si man. Slurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp, man (drool, slaver). But why would she be demoting a recipe for Top Chefs? Aren't the top chefs that good to eat? ("How many people are we having for dinner tonight, Dear?" asked the cannibal.)

And, wouldn't one first have to mote a recipe before demoting it? Much like "liver" and "deliver," see man. Had to dust off that grammar item, which suits demo(t)ing to a t, man.

Finally, wasn't it Cannibal who crossed the Rubicon with those elephants, huh man?

---

A diner visited a restaurant that was known for dishes prepared from exotic animals. He told the waiter that he would like an elephant cutlet. "I'm sorry, sir," said the waiter, "but I have only one elephant at this time, and I cannot allow him to be slaughtered for a single cutlet. May I instead interest you in a gnu steak?" The diner agreed, and he was soon served his steak.

As the diner finished eating, the waiter asked how he had liked his meal. "The steak was all right," said the diner, "but I have eaten gnu steaks before, and I can assure you that this was probably from a different animal."

"That may be, sir," said the waiter. "However, you must admit that it was just as good as gnu!"

okok I suppose I should admit they've got nothing on proper pasta salad of course, but I don't typically eat pasta salad anyway so on the rare occasions I do use the packet stuff it does the job :P Mmmm for some reason I'm now craving home made potato salad.

Foreigners didn't have technology like freeze dried foods, etc.. until way late in the game so when they see pasta in a box it kind of freaks them out. Box or bag, pasta is pasta. Now can someone tell me what makes the pasta in a bag taste better than the pasta in a box or do all foreigners grow and manufacture their own pasta ?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

it isn't the pasta. it is the powder flvaour packet that is the issue. Using a bottled salad dressing would be better then those packets.

I have eaten the boxed salads and they aren't horrible but they are not that great either. I wouldn't serve it to guests. I would make my own or buy from a deli..

Add lib a bit. Throw in some extra virgin olive oil and maybe a touch of vinegar along with the goodies that come in the packet and ur good to go.

We have pasta in a box in Australia.. I just prefer the "real thing" I guess, to buy or make my own pasta and to use fresh ingredients and make my own salad like Marilyn said.

Maybe I am a food snob  but believe it or not we have pasta in a box too in Australia :)

Yep, Canada has boxed pasta and those flavor packets are absolute garbage. You can tell it comes from a box.

Real thing = way better. And not that difficult.
