i think you are seperated for a good reason - someone made a choice to get on the plane.

I'm sorry, I have no empathy on this one.

OTOH, a grandparent is not considered 'immediate family ' to a child, at all, so there is no basis, no connection, from a USCIS perspective.

They all can come visit you on the VWP, or you can jump a plane to go visit them.

Sorry, this 'family' definition is bogus, and for Mr. Obama, he's trying to get the Hispanic Vote with his 'immigration' thing.

Good Luck, what ever happens !

Evie doesn't have an immigration problem. She has dual citizenship. She can live in the UK or in the US. She doesn't need a visa to come back to the US. It is her foreign born parents with the immigration problem. You are using Evie as an innocent face to elicit an emotional response to benefit your adult married daughter and her husband.

Yup, this is the bit that is quite sickening to me. That 'grandmother' thinking she can jump some queue.

For sure this. And as well that she 'constantly asks to come home.' I would think that the child would be better served by not planting that sort of thing in her head, and constantly reinforcing it with wishful thinking. Not many 3 year old's in my experience think along those lines.

She's three. Where her parents are IS home. They are her immediate family.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I can understand that you want your whole family to be together but sometimes it just isn't a reality.

Being with my whole family will never be a reality for me, I have family in Europe, Australia and now the US and it sucks, I want to be with my grandparents, my uncles and aunties, my Mum, my Dad!

But...

Your daughter is with her daughter , her immediate family is together - parents and child.

They can visit the US and the other parts of your family.

The part of your family not from the US can visit you.

They are not separated from their child and that is the MAIN thing in my opinion.

If your family is desperate to be together I am sure there is another option for you, you go and live where they are? Is there a third place you could all live?

If your grandchild is desperate to go back "home" (though she is very very young so I find this implausible) then can she stay with her US side of the family for a while?

Again I truly understand how hard it is to be apart from family and I am sorry you are separated and unhappy, but this is a reality for so many families. Please be thankful your daughter is not separated from her child at the very least.

I would never sign a petition, such as that, if'n I based it solely on wording, sentence structure and grammer.

I REFOOZE !!!!

and you really wish to place that in front of the President? Truly??

I agree totally.. the petition itself is very misleading (especially those not going thru immigration or knowing how it works) making someone think this family is completely separated and the baby is without family. However in truth it's the extended family wanting the baby and her parents back in the USA. The actual family unit itself is in tact and living in UK with the baby so they arent separated at all. They can certainly visit and travel as needed as well as the extended family making trips as well. They are safe and together and that's all that matters.

I just read the petition and indeed, for anyone who knows nothing about immigration, it sounds like a very tragic story when, in fact, it is just an very unfortunate one.

OP, I have a lot of symphathy for your situation. I am sure you miss your granddaughter and your daughter and I am even sure, they all miss you and the life they had for a while.

I myself have a 3 year old son who was born in Germany while we were stationed there. My family lives there, so he got to know all of them, they were all he knew. Then we had to pack up again and move back to the US. I will be honest, I felt really bad about uprooting him like this and he talks about Germany and his family there EVERY day and that he wants to go back. BUT: He has family here as well that he got to know and love and the main thing is: He is with his parents and his brother and that is all that really matters to him. He is not unhappy here and I bet, so is your granddaughter over in the UK.

I am not saying it's what you do but if I told my son all the time "Don't you want to go back to ....? Wasn't it nice there? Don't you miss...?" I am sure he would take this change much harder.

So, while I am sorry that you can't live close together right now, there is no way you have grounds for any petition to be signed. The family isn't separated, there is no hardship that would require you to be reunited with their family other than you missing them.

It's unfortunate and maybe unfair what happened to your daughters immigration status but it is what it is. There are still ways for them to come back but it will take time. So really, it is not as bad as you want to make it sound.

And using your granddaughter as "bait" for people to feel sorry, sign your petition to benefit your daughters immigration journey is not cool.

I would like to follow this though to see how far you guys get with it. I wish you all the best, but please play fair!
