You may be able to get Medicare for them. I think they have to be 62 years old to qualify. Check with your county social services in your state . Good luck.

ry calling your local welfare office and ask what they will be eligible for I think medicade and medicare for the 62 year old and the 58 I think will have to work untill 62 before they become eligible for any social programs also I beleive some of these

programs fall outside of your 864 some fall inside of it which will make you responsible so give welfare a call its what they are there for don't be shy and ask if nothing else they can point you in the right direction Ok then have a good day

None

And it will take nearly 6 years to become citizens.

Bring them to the SS office once they apply for an SS card and from there you will know what benefits will be given... once they are old us citizen, they will be given benefits--

Not true. If a person doesn't work and pay into the system, they cannot receive benefits.

Not so much to be honest (job skills) my dad plans on working in say home depot or something, I am just concerned that he wont get a job right away.

State in Colorado.

What state are you in? Check out the Anthem website and one of those compare insurance websites, that will give you an idea of the various cost options: remembering that the price quoted will assume healthy applicants. Unfortunately for that age you can expect to be paying something akin to a mortgage payment. Do either of your parents have a very marketable job skill?

What insurance have you gone with?

Have your parents check with their local travel agency. They should be able to purchase travel insurance a LOT cheaper than any insurance. I lived in Europe and purchased it myself when traveling to the US and other countries and it was far cheaper than the insurance I must now purchase for the love of my life when she comes here later this year. Good luck

Hi Everyone, I am planning on bringing my folks over to live in the States and I am concerned about insurance for them. They live in England and want to come to Colorado to live with us. Firstly, is there any type of set-up with the United Kingdom and the USA where insurance is covered? I am led to believe that they will not qualify for medicare as they are not citizens. There ages are Mum 64 and Dad 60. My mum plans on not working when they are here but my dad plans on doing so. My concerns are how will they be able to get insured without paying a ton of money each month? My wife and I make around 75k between us a year, and my parents will have a little income, too, around $500 a month, plus if they rent the house they own in the UK a little extra money also.

Does anyone have any experience with this as there has to be a reasonably priced way for them to "retire" here without getting ripped off with insurance in case any emergency happened? Any links or telephone numbers would be very helpful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shaun.

They haven't paid into the Medicare system so that is unavailable to them. They will have to purchase health insurance. And as you know, it is expensive.

Some VJ members have shared that having a health insurance plan is needed at the interview.

What about medicaid, do you have any suggestions where else to look/prices etcetera?

Medicaid is a means tested benefit. It is essentially a welfare benefit given to the poor.

An LPR is not eligible for regular Medicaid for the first five years.

When an LPR receives regular Medicaid (even when the LPR qualifiers), the I-864 sponsors are liable for the benefits received. The sponsors would legally be responsible for reimbursing the US government for the benefits received.

Your Father would have to work for 40 quarters, say 10 years to get Meidcare, after 5 years here they would be able to buy in, will cost a lot more than $500 a month.

Ask your Friendly local Insurance Advisor for a quote.
