Procuring Police Cert at Japan Embassy

My fiance needs to get a Japanese police cert and she's living in Korea. Has anyone had to go to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate in another country to do this? If so, what documents/information did you need to bring to get the certificate and how long did it take? I'm assuming it has to be translated too. I don't know where to get that done.

Thanks...this one popped up last minute and I already have a petition approved. I'd like to get this done quickly, even know I know there will be a wait involved.

There was another thread late last week about a fiancee being denied due to lack of a japanese PC. His fiancee was from Ukraine and they were headed to the japanese consulate on Monday. I have to believe that the process for the request would be the same. I will see if I can find the OP.

Hi there...

I taught in Japan for a year so I had to obtain a police certificate from the Japanese Consulate here in Vancouver. I don't know if they have a consulate in Korea but I would contact them and ask them exactly what they require of your fiance.

I called the Japanese Consulate here and they wanted to see my passport in which the Japanese Visa was issued, and the rotten thing was they wanted me to bring the official document from the US consulate (the checklist from Packet 3) requesting the foreign police certificate. So I basically had to wait and wait and wait for that checklist before I could request one.

It will take 2 MONTHS for that police certificate to get to me, and that's the reason why I haven't been able to schedule an interview yet. The reason it takes that long is because Japan is SO bureacratic that it has to go through many, many hands before it gets here, and it is unneccessarily translated into 5 different languages. That is so Japan. The only good thing is that it was free. Pretty much the only thing that has not cost me any money since applying for the K1.

I don't know what citizenship your fiance is, but if she is living in Korea, it may be faster...because it's closer than Canada?...this I don't know. But that's my experience anyway. Hope this helps somewhat.
