SSN & manual verification

Hello all. My husband (former fiance) arrived in the U.S. mid-May on a K1 visa. We waited the recommended 10 business days and visited the SS office near us. No record of him in the SAVE system yet. We waited another few business days, tried that SS office again. Still no record yet from Homeland Security in the SS system. Reading the advice in this forum, we went to a different SS office, thinking that perhaps it was a personnel issue with regard to understanding K1 visas, but he wasn't in that system either. At 20 business days out, we went to the 2nd office we had tried previously, checked again to no avail, and decided to file the form for the manual verificaton check, knowing that this would delay us a few weeks. Well, now it's been 6 weeks since that paperwork was filed with SS, and SS still says that they have not completely verified his information. We left a message with the woman handling his case, but I'm not hopeful for a response.

My questions are:

1. We were waiting for the SSN before filing for his AOS. Should we just go ahead and file for his AOS now, without a SSN?

2. Has anyone had an experience like this, and if so, is there anything we can do to facilitate this process in a timely manner (i.e., faster than the "U.S. Government's definition of timely")? We're a bit worried about waiting any longer to file the AOS, due to need to get his AOS application mailed out in the next few weeks....

Thank you in advance for any advice!

I'm sure others will also chime..

1. A SSN is not required when filing the AOS. You can apply for a SSN once the EAD is received.

2. My sister-in-law had a similar problem with obtaining a SSN. She was in the system but her name was wrong and dates were wrong.

The SSA office manually applied for the SSN, 4 weeks later Homeland Security requested they refile using the system --

it took a total of 7.5 weeks for her SSN arrived.

Good luck!
