Hello Everybody,

I am an American Citizen living in Cyprus with my Moroccan wife and our four month old daughter. We are living here because, my wife is unable to return to Morocco for fear of persecution related our religion and other related issues. We do not know how long we will be able to remain here due to visa issues. I approached our consular officer about doing a direct consulate filing and was verbally denied. Her reason was that Morocco is not on their list of dangerous countries for Christians. I explained that my wife has already been threatened and attacked, while visiting her family. I also explained the other issues related to our daughters safety and status in Morocco. She became very rude, called my wife a liar and refused to discuss the issue any further. My question is: Is there any recourse and what can we do? I fear for the safety of my family if we are forced to return to Morocco and we cannot afford to constantly relocate. Should we contact our US Congressman or Senator? Thanks

File via the Chicago lockbox. As you have a foreign address, it'll get fast tracked and be almost as fast as DCF. IT'll be quicker to do this than fight them.

Yes, a high risk pregnancy is grounds for expedite, especially if you can show there are more expert doctors in the USA.

A non visa related thought: If the pregnancy is high risk, how will you pay for the care? This is something you ought to plan for and not have an unpleasant surprise in the US.

Exactly who poses a threat to your family in Morocco?

Did your wife convert to Christianity?

If that's the case, and her family is none too pleased about this, and/or her marriage to you, Morocco is a big country, with a lot of people, and there's no reason you couldn't simply avoid unpleasant family and stay someplace far away from them. They would never have to know you were even there. When you're there, it would't be anyone around you's business who you are or what you believe. How would anyone know one way or another unless you told them?

Thank you all for your responses.

Penguin_ie:thanks for your prompt responses.Yes you are right, its a ground for expedite request,we have got the confirmation.

Anh map:This was not planned,my little one is only few months old,but finances are not the issue here. Thanks anyway :) .

sandinista!:Thank you but its a bit more complicated than that.Prostelyzing is a crime in Morocco and we have an active well-known ministry, that caused big issues during our summer visit last year.

To be clear,We are not applying for a refugee Visa but for CR1 like everybody else here. Our question was about the expedite process and thanks to the helpful answers,we now know we are eligible.

Thank you.

Hope it all goes well for you, it must be a very difficult time.

Anh Map's point actually is visa related, because it goes towards the potential of you becoming a public charge- ie they may deny the visa if they think you will be unable to pay for your foreign wife's medical care. However, just have your wife bring proof of being covered by insurance (or however you plan to pay for the medical care) to the interview and she should be fine.

Visas can also be denied for sham marriages, such as the beneficiary paying a sum of money to the petitioner for immigration privileges. Would it be appropriate to randomly

ask a poster about that, just because it's something that could come up in an interview and they could have to prove otherwise? Morocco is a high fraud country after all.

Or would it just be appropriate to bring it up if the OP asked about it specifically?

Thank you Penguin_ie for your objective and helpful answers, sorry we haven't been on the Internet for a while.

I understand Anh Map s point now, thanks for pointing it out but i don't think we will have any trouble because our family have health insurance and both of us meet the requirements for the Affidavit of Support.

We followed your advice and have just sent the package.

Thanks everyone that provided helpful responses.

What do you mean by Visa issues?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
