Hi Xanax,

Thanks for your reply.

Two main reasons for using attorneys: First, I thought if this is such an important thing to me and my Fiancee, better have some representation. Second, I have had bad experiences with beaurocrats in the past (Post Office employees to be specific) and went into this process expecting to be treated badly and unfairly by the beurocrats.

I thought if I have an attorney, the beaurocrat would be less likely to walk all over me as if I was a weed in a garden.

Instead it was the attorneys who treated me badly and unfairly. Lesson learned... attorneys aren't worth the money, headache or bullsh*t.

So, as you have learned, and hopefully others will read this post and learn, unless you have some sort of extreme circumstances you do not need a lawyer for this process. I also want to point out that the lawyers sort of don't "represent" you as much as they just fill out paperwork. (which you can do) When it comes down to the interviews, it is not like in a court where they can "object". Also, whether you have a lawyer or not, the beaurocracy of this process can still walk all over us as if we are weeds in the garden. Right now with the new Obama initiative, our petition (which BTW we have paid a HEFTY fee for) is taking a back seat to the floods of petitions from the immigrants that are not here "lawfully" so they can adjust status (or whatever it is they are getting to do). Obviously, I am not against the initiative, I am against that they get to "cut in line"!

Sighhh, there is nothing we can do but wait for CSC to get to our petition in their "timeframe". Whatever that is :bonk:

I can't imagine what it would be like to realize the tremendous amount of money that was wasted on your incompetent lawyers referred to in your post.

I hope things get better for you. Good luck with the rest of your process and remember, "YOU CAN DO IT"

"I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Yes, I just had to fire the Immigration Attorney I was using.

She's a high-pressure nut case freak. She made the Visa process the most stressful and difficult thing in my life. She lied to me. She's a bully that attacks from her lawyer bully pulpit. She would attack me viciously in her emails over minor things.

Even my mother thought this attorney was trying to get me to respond to her attacks with anger so she could contact the U.S. Consulate in China and tell them I have a bad temper and sabotage my Fiancee Visa.

You hire someone to help you and pay them good money to do so and in return they do everything they can to destroy the most important thing in your life to you and yours.

Be careful who you hire to help you.

It's CRAZY to say it but I have heard BAD stories from people who hire attorneys for immigration processes! I participate in a group for Brazilians with K visas on facebook and a girl there received many wrong infos from her attorney.

She was "saved" by the girls in the group who have been through the process. They explained what was right and wrong and she had TIME to fix the forms.

Her K1 visa is almost done and she found out FROM ME that after getting married she would have to start AOS process!! Her attorney didn't tell her that!

If you don't have a RED FLAG, u don't need an attorney. It's very simple! There are websites like VJ to help people, the USCIS website has all the forms available for ANYONE! The process is stressful, but SOME (not every) attorneys just want to make easy money and get too many cases. Which make difficult for them to do a good job.

In my opinion: NO ONE CARES MORE ABOUT YOUR PROCESS THAN YOURSELF. You are capable to do it.

Good luck, God bless you!

Rebeca

I am sorry for what you endured. But I got to say KUDO's to you Sir. I read this last night and LOL'd all the way home. You got it man. Loved it. Your words and your kick a@# attitude sorry for the "dragon lady".

I find it so interesting because I have a few friends who used lawyers and every last one of them are in AP, denied, NOIR or totally rejected. All got RFE's and much attitude from lawyers. Lawyers didn't prepare them for interviews. Basically clueless. And some were going through Lagos. Like are you serious. So I applaud you sire way to go.:dancing:

Every State Bar has a phone number which you can contact to file a claim against attorneys. If you think that some rules of professional conduct were violated, you are welcome to call them and let them know. Copy of the emails would be very good evidence. Same with the scammer (provided that he is an attorney, otherwise the State Bar can't do anything but you would have a fraud case against him).

This is a DIY process but if you dont have the time to look every thing up and you are nervious. You would like a little help with out the BIG price tag of a lawyer. I can recomend YFW visa yourfilipinawife.com. It is a husband / wife team. They do all countries but specialize in Philippines. Tell them Brian and Erenea sent you.

Thats so cool and this is the one thing so many people don't ask whe they seek a lawyer. Thet see "immigration lawyer" and they think they know immigration. And really what we all need is a "embassy specific lawyer". Because those of us (Lagos for my husband) going through tough Embassies know you have to know what you know about the embassy and frankly most of us know our SO's embassy better than any lawyer would. Cuz what happens in Canada and UK well just won't fly in Lagos, the MENA's or Islamabad. So its great you have peeps that look out for folk and who knows.

I still say that although its great our SO's get a VISA in the end. Us the Petitioner should recieve a deree in Immigration Affairs or Doctorate in Embassy protocol. Goodness. (sorry I am babling).

I hired an Attorney the first time which was a waste of time. They asked for way too many documents and drove me crazy. I did this K1 myself and actually thought I was missing something because I sent in so little compared to last time. But when I look at the checklist this great sight offers I am right on.... I think lol.. I also find this time around that my relationship with my fiancee is much better than previous. I atribute some of this to both of use contributing to this process and following as a couple.

I believe the only time one needs an Attorney is it all other avenues have been exhausted.

Good luck on the rest of your journey! Sounds like a good move firing your attorney.

Take care

Hi John & Mari,

Thanks for your reply and for the information.

You're right. All Immigration Attorneys do is fill out the paperwork. The Immigration Attorney I just fired also gave me bad advice and lied to me. She kept insisting there is an 'English Test' that my Fiancee will be required to pass. I later found out here that is not the case, there is no English test given. But once I told my Fiancee she had to pass an English test, she became very worried and kept delaying things and dragging things out.

Yes, I did waste my money, but luckily I got most of my money back through my credit card company from the first Immigration Attorney I used (the scam artist, although I now see them both as scam artists).

Thanks for your words of support, I do appreciate it.
