My wife's SSN is stuck in the pending situation for about a month. We checked SSN on DS-230. After POE about 3 weeks, we went to SSA office and ask about the SSN. They asked us to fill out the SSN application and ask us to wait. 2 weeks later, we went to SSA office again, we are told her information has been verified with DHS, but no number has been assigned and keep waiting. I called again today and was told it is pending. :-(. I asked what's pending on, he says immmigration. That's what they said last time. My wife already received her green card for about 3 weeks now, I am so frustrated.. Darnell or Moomin, anything else I can do?

Alas, you missed an important part, when standing there the FIRST TIME,

and it's this...

Ask the clerk to look up in the SAVE database using VISA Name or Visa Number.

Can't find from either? Take the application out of the clerk's hands then come back in a week. Apply again. Ask for SAVE Database lookup once more. Still not found? Take the application out of the clerk's hands as there seems to be a problem with the entry record with CBP Office. If it's off, it's off because of a typo - a letter off in the name or a number wrong in the Visa Number. CBP can correct that same day, when you go to a local 'secondary inspection / deferred inspection' office [not always at any airport] .

So, I claim, for the moment, you had a timing issue.

Now that the clerk is waiting on 'immigration' to return something back to the SSA office - basically it's the DHS Verification form/process - and that takes anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks , depending on the USCIS field office and their queue.

So, is possible to speed this along, to have something issued tomorrow at the SSA office? Unlikely. The most you can do is to go back in person, ask for a SAVE database lookup, and see what is returned. Even then, they won't let you apply again until that DHS verification process is complete.

I hate the 'DHS Verification Process' much. I truly do. Even moreso, I hate any clerk at SSA who isn't properly trained to use the SAVE database system.

Sorry, I wish I had different news/info. I truly do.

Good Luck !

stop using the telephone with SSA - they are mostly idiots.

You need a different set of idiots, alas..

Get into your local SSA office with yer passport and fill out a SSA-5 form,

then ask the clerk to look you up in the SAVE database using yer VISA name .

If not found with the VISA name, ask to be looked up in the VISA NUMBER.

If not found, stop. Retract your application from the clerk's fingers,

and come back in a week, try again.

Good Luck !

This!

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
