Lets call it what it was. It's the "Good ol' boy network" taking care of each other and that needs to be done away with. It's going away somewhat anyways.

What did Nike do?

They announced they are removing Joe Paterno's name from the "Joe Paterno Child Development Center" in Beaverton, OR.

This article says that Sandusky's parents also ran a "boys home for underprivileged youth," and suggests that Sandusky's "problem" goes way back.

Sandusky will be raped in jail soon. He will be showering with grown men.

I dunno... more likely assaulted and killed. Nobody wants a flabby old man, not even in prison. And child molesters are considered the lowest of the low, even among murderers and other violent criminals.

I read that he's being kept in solitary for his own protection.

Exactly - you just don't become a pedo all of a sudden in 1998.

I have in no way condoned his lack of action. His lack of action is reprehensible.

Yes we're all human. I thought all knew that. Is it a fact that he positively affected thousands of people, absolutely. Will those positive impacts to these individuals change now because of this? No.

Saying that he made a mistake and "we're all human" sounds like you're shrugging off the implications of his non-actions. I know that if he had made a positive impact in my life, it would DEFINITELY be changed now that I know what kind of person he was.

I disagree. If he introduced you to your husband, gave you tickets to a game and you took your kid to the football game and your son had the opportunity to meet the players and had the time of his life at the game. Would any of those things be negated because of this? This coward would no longer have been the person to have introduced you two? Your son wouldn't have stories to tell his classmates and future co-workers at school about the time he was at a Penn State game?

Not negated. But this man who had once been wonderful in the eyes of me and my family is now known to have covered for a child molester for over a decade. So while the positive is still there (the husband, the tickets, the game my kid loved) it would definitely be marred. Those positive memories would have a negative mark on them. I would never be able to think of those memories that are tied to him without thinking of the dozens of poor children who suffered because of him.

But that's just me. Other people might think differently.

There's no point in talking to him, he will argue a stupid point that doesn't make sense to the death. :P

I feel this is the problem JoePa's family are having. While he might have been a wonderful family member, he did something very bad. This must be very hard for them to accept.

Unfortunately he will probably be kept away from the general population.

That is not enough punishment for him. This type of crime has an impact into several generations of the victims.

He has wrecked so many lives. Many of the boys he molested are now men who are married or are in relationships. Child abuse victims usually have anger issues that they bring into the marriage/relationship. It affects their relationship with their kids. And some child molested victims become molesters themselves.

I don't think it is enough punishment either, nothing can ever be enough for this type of crime. All involved need to be severely punished.

Paterno Won Sweeter Deal Even as Scandal Played Out

In January 2011, the same month that Joe Paterno learned of an investigation into his longtime assistant coach Jerry Sandusky and testified before a grand jury, he began negotiating with his superiors to amend his contract. The timing was something of a surprise, because the contract was not set to expire until the end of 2012, according to university documents and people with knowledge of the discussions.

By August, Mr. Paterno, who was the football coach at Penn State, and the university’s president, both of whom were by then embroiled in the investigation into Mr. Sandusky’s sexual assaults on boys, had reached an agreement. Mr. Paterno was to be paid $3 million at the end of the 2011 season if he agreed it would be his last. Interest-free loans totaling $350,000 would be forgiven, and he would have use of the university’s private plane.
