I keep reading blogs about getting SSN. I arrived here in US with k-1 visa. After 2 months my fiance and i got married. My I-94 is almost expired when we tried to get SSN. The male officer told us we can apply and get SSN when we got EAD or GC. So when I got my EAD we went back to local office of Social Security and my application was accepted. They said i will have my SS card after 2 weeks. We keep waiting for the mail and the card. After 3 weeks, we called the local office and follow up my card. The officer who accepted my application said they are still waiting for the verification from the DHS. After a week, which the 4 week, we called again. The officer said, the DHS cannot verify the documents presented because my last name in the passport (which is my maiden name) didn't match to the last name of my EAD card (i used the last name of the husband coz we are married already). They said i will wait for my GC and apply again for SSN.. My question now is.. How come i can't apply SSN using my married name, I submitted my marriage certificate too? The USCIS approved our application and still waiting for the AOS. And also i have already my EAD.. I am really confused..:(

You should try a different social security office as they are clearly incompetent at the one your going to. We had my wifes SSN 2 weeks after we were married just using her passport and marriage certificate.

Did your wife used already your last name? or just the name on her passport when applying SSN?

We showed them the passport and the marriage cert and they made the SSN using her married name .Maybe Oklahoma is different.
