Been there, done that. Ran back as quick as I could.

A 2009 quote from Danno in your sig and you just joined this board less than two months ago. BTW Gowon hows your Visa Journey working out for ya?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Over 3 million people on food stamps in CA. That's more than the total population of almost half of the states on the above list.

In this case absolute numbers are misleading.

That doesn't mean anything, there are more people in CA. You need to use percentages to make your "fact" relevant. California is not in the top 10 for food stamps, so that point about how many are on it is irrelevant.

California is a one-party state dominated by a virulent Democrat Left enabled by a complicit media where every agency of local, county, and state government is run by and for the public employee unions. The unemployment rate is 12%.

The white paper cited by the OP is a good example of sophistry. The author begins with a premise which is not correct and then build your entire paper on that.

A list of governors of the State of California for the past 69 years is shown below, so if one were to say California is a one party state it would be a big misrepresentation of the truth to say it is democratic leaning.

The GOP logged 47 years and the Democrats 22 years in the Governor's office.

It seems the author is another individual who suffer from SGS - Sour Grape Syndrome, an affliction shared by many here in all matters related to the State of California.

Statewide constitutional officers

As of January 10, 2011, Democrats hold all eight elected statewide constitutional offices:

U.S. Senate

Both of California's seats in the U.S. Senate have been under Democratic control since 1992:

U.S. House of Representatives

Of the 53 seats California is apportioned in the U.S. House following the 2000 census, 34 are held by the Democrats:

State Senate

Democrats hold a 25-15 edge in the 40-member State Senate at the start of the 2011-2012 session. The Democrats have been the majority party in the Senate continuously since 1956.

State Assembly

Democrats hold a 52-28 majority in the 80-seat California State Assembly, with one vacancy belonging to a seat recently held by the Republican Party. The Democrats have been the majority party in the Assembly continuously since 1996.

Mayoral offices

Some of the state's major cities have Democratic mayors. In 2011, Democrats control the mayor's offices in seven of California's ten largest cities:

  • Los Angeles (1): Antonio Villaraigosa
  • San Jose (3): Chuck Reed
  • San Francisco (4): Ed Lee
  • Sacramento (6): Kevin Johnson
  • Long Beach (7): Bob Foster
  • Oakland (8): Jean Quan
  • Santa Ana (9): Miguel A. Pulido[8]

Are you still blaming the Republicans for California's fiscal problems?

I think the OP was blaming the Democrats or at best using the sophism predicated by the white-paper as evidence somehow that one party or the other was solely responsible for it... or worse, trying to imply the POTUS is responsible for the situation in California.

Go figure...Sophistry is self serving..

Can you please quote the part of the OP that blames the president? Democrats have controlled the California Senate sine 1956 and the California Assembly since 1996.

That is precisely my point. Dems have controlled the Senate and Assembly, Reps have controlled the Governor's office.

Blaming it on one party or one individual, as the white-paper suggests, would be sophomoric...

If you consider that dreams and visions can only happen in the future, it would be more accurate to say that 'California is Reagan's dream' is one wished to make the weak and irrational point that the POTUS has any bearing on the status of any particular State.

The state is rigged so that the Governor is only a figurehead. Look how much trouble Moonbeam is having getting anything done, even after they rigged the budget process to lock out the Republicans. They still have to go to the taxpayers to raise the taxes, and that just is not going to happen again. The electorate is getting wise to the ways of Sacramento.
