do i need a russian visa?

Does anybody know if i would need a visa to russia if i am just gonna be traveling through moscow airport going into georgia. My travel agent cant seem to answer this. Thanks

Is the current situation in Georgia - Russia relations even allow flights/trains? I thought they were having a rather tense time right now?

Is there a different route perhaps that would get around stopping in Moscow?

I believe you will need a Transit visa.

travel.state.gov doesn't say so I would suggest phoning the Russian Consulate for your area and ask them.

That might be faulty info but that IS what I would do.

A simple look at the Russian embassy site in Washington and they state a transit visa will be needed to transit in and out of the country. http://www.russianembassy.org/

You may want to contact the Russian embassy about this and explain, sometimes if you just change planes in the airport with out leaving the airport they may not require a transit visa.

Yes thats true i just thought of that after i sent this post. I dont know where she was trying to send me. I called my travel agent and told her NO MOSCOW, so i will have to just pay more i guess. Thanks for replying.

Here is what the requirements are for a USC going to Georgia via Moscow:

Visa not required if continuing within 24 hours and not leaving the airside (international) transit area. Passenger must hold onward ticket and all documents required for next destination.

If continuing by a domestic flight (also including Belarus); or if airport of arrival is different from airport of departure within the same Russian city (e.g. arriving at Sheremetyevo-2 and departing from Sheremetyevo-1 airport in Moscow): Transit visa required, as entering territory of Russian Fed.

So the key question is are you staying in the international zone or not? Check your flight numbers and determine where they depart from. Inside of SVOII only or DME only, you should be fine. But if you have to change terminals or airports you'll need the visa.
