I called NVC yesterday morning, and was told they'd just received my file from CSC that day.

Today I got an email from NVC, answering my email of last week:

"RE:GUZxxxxxxxxx

Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2006 19:15:43 -0400

Good Afternoon,

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

As part of the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, there are additional security check requirements for visa applicants. While it is not possible to predict when the clearances for this case will be finished by all involved Washington agencies, please be assured that as soon as the results are received the NVC will be able to schedule this case for an interview at the assigned US Embassy or Consulate General. As soon as an interview is scheduled notification will be sent to the designated agent by mail.

Regards,

National Visa Center"

I then called NVC. They said our file is undergoing additional administrative review.

Questions:

1. Is the GUZ number what people refer to as the "NVC number"?

2. If so, does that mean we're done with NVC?? The email sure doesn't sound like it.

3. What is "additional administrative review"? Any idea how long it takes?

Thanks for all your help!

Tom

Thank for for updating your timeline. (My Assistant, then edit/add my timeline.)

I am in precisely the same situation as you; almost exactly the same timeline. I have a GUZ number. Is this an NVC number; or has the file been sent to Guz. pending completion of admin. review. Is the admin. review something out of the ordinary? Does it mean one of the two names has hit a (false) positive and now must wait for time-consuming clearance..... What a pisser.

Tom Hate to hear this and wish I had some advice. Suurely someone with experience will come to your aid soon.

I do know the file number assigned at NVC will start with the letter specific to your consulate which is what you have. I would like to think that since your approval came in a while back and you have been waiting a little longer than the norm, that you have been in this adminstrative review. It seems to explain why the petititon did not slip in and out of NVC.

I hope its not long there and soon on its way to China.

Questions:

1. Is the GUZ number what people refer to as the "NVC number"?

Yes, this is your number for the embassy.

2. If so, does that mean we're done with NVC?? The email sure doesn't sound like it.

It means that your case is in detailed security checks now. It can take a few weeks to months for them to verify the informtion.

3. What is "additional administrative review"?

Anyone coming from what is considered a T country or communist has to have more extensive name checks done on them. This is similar to Administrative Review that is done at the embassy level once you have your interview. It basically means at this time the name has been submitted to the many data bases and that they are running all kinds of checks for security purposes. Since 9/11 these are more common and they cannot be expediated since they are considered a matter of national security.

Any idea how long it takes?

Unknown and just depends on the person's name and how fast it is cleared via the many agencies. Above the answered question above tells why the time frame cannot be disclosed.

Thanks for all your help!

Tom

Your welcome and know that many others endure these checks. The government has a list of said countries called the T countries and they are what is referred to as terrorist countries that may or may not aide, abet or help terrorists. Also communist ties and depending on the person's schooling, job profession or other things that may make them a threat to the country has to be ruled out. Especially all males coming from these countries are scruntinzed more and once a security checks starts no one can help to make it move faster. Good luck and just take your journey one day at a time now and pray for patience during this time.

Tom: FYI, I called NVC today and they said my file was sent to GUZ this morning. So, I guess I just spent 2 weeks total in admin. review; one month total at NVC. So, admin. review may not in all cases be a worse case scenario situation.

Best of luck.

Is there a list somewhere of these "suspect" countries?

I cut and paste from http://www.wolfsdorf.com/articles/Consular...50524.htm#_ftn5

The “Terrible 7” refers to countries identified as state sponsors of terrorism, currently designated as Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, North Korea, and Cuba. Some consular officials now refer to the list as the “T-6” countries, since Iraq is under “U.S. control,” but Iraqi nationals will still undergo extensive security checks.

As far as how long A/R can take there are no anwers. There are 138,000 people in A/R according the the USCIS website. There is no logic to the timelines and no compassion in the longer cases. There is next to no information that will be available to you. You come out when you come out. Your congressman can't get info or help you nor can a lawyer.

The closest thing to a timeline I have seen is on the USCIS website. Of the people who are in A/R 68% have been there for more than 3 months and 35% have been there for more than a year. There are a lot of cases however that are in A/R for only a few weeks. Mine has passed the 4 month mark. I know of other VJ'ers who have been 19 months one who is still in at 2 years and 4 months one for 5 years and the all time record is 8 years. Most however are a few weeks to a few months. I hope yours is quick.

12/14/2006 Applied for K-1 with request for Waver for Multiple filings within 2 years.
Waiting - Waiting - Waiting
3/6 Called NVC file sent to Washington for "Administrative Review" Told to call back every few weeks. 7/6 Called NVC, A/R is finished, case on way to Moscow. YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7/13 On Friday the 13th we see updated Moscow website with our interview on 9/11 (Hope we are not supersticious) 9/11 Visa Approved. Yahoo.
10/12 Tickets for her to America. I am flying to JFK to meet her there. 12/15/07 We are married. One year and a day after filling original K-1
12/27 Filed for AOS, EAD & AP 1/3 Received all three NOA-1's 1/22 Biometrics 2/27 EAD & AP received 4/12 Interview
5/19/08 RFE for physical that she should not have needed. 5/28 New physical ($ 250.00 wasted) 6/23 Green Card received
4/22/10 Filed for Removal of Contitions. 6/25 10 Year Green Card received Nov, 2014 Citizenship ceremony. Our journey is complete.

Was searching on NVC and found this site...nice!

My fiance and I started our K1 process in April '06 (from the day of gathering up documents to ship to the lawyer) and received our initial approval 12/20/06. The NVC received our case on January 18, 2007. Ever since that date, our case has been in "administrative review". It's terribly frustrating for both of us...we'd love to see it just get out of the NVC.
