I know why firms move to an area

Its either because there is a compliant beaten down un-unionised workforce willing to work for peanuts - China /vietnam/texas

Or a source of highly skilled highly paid unionized technical workers - eg Germany

Did silicon Valley have Unionized employees?

I guess they were not skilled as per your defination.... I guess People working for Lockhead, Raytheon, TI, Saber, Verizion, ATT are not skilled.

I am sure they are working on peanuets.... lol

Texas is 25th which is half way on median income same time cost of living is also low comparead to states on East coast which are take up few spots in 1 thru 25

I am not crazy about Texas but as an American I am glad they are doing well, considering they rank high in population. Hopefully it translates i to more jobs, people are faring better and the economy on the rebound.

Salaries notwithstanding, it is better to work for little than not to work at all.

Yay Texas!

Typically higher paid employees are not unionized

I have not been in a Union for decades

However, the lower paid benefit from union conditions

The cost of living is low because the people who supply those services are earning low wages

You can't have high wages and a low cost of living - they march in tandem

That's why India has low income and a low cost of living, and why Indians are exploited by international call centers.

I was dirt poor

The Government, who I love, gave me a grant to go to college and it was bigger than most people earned but only about $15k total

By the 1990's I was paying $50,000 a year in tax - year after year after year The American Government is being commercially stupid given the vast returns they could make if they would invest in their own people. They could make 50 to one returns on their investment

The rest of the world looks on in pity at the reactionary stupidity of right wing policies and with sorrow for the poor US Citizens despised by 50% of their fellow citizens. At the same time they are relieved that poor US Citizens are not being developed to the level where they can compete with these countries

By now you must be Billionaire if your were paying 50 k in a tax each year. :innocent:

I wonder how they rate on minimum wage jobs / unionization / life expectancy /health care coverage /premature baby deaths / school graduation / gun killings / incarceration rates --- etc etc

it's ok - I know

Interesting that the District of Columbia has like 9 times the national average for Gun murders per 100 people, but has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation.

You can feel free to do so if that's your perogative.

If you live paycheck to paycheck and at the same time aren't stealing from the tax base to provide from your kids, then feel free to reproduce. However taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for your brats.

Yes they should. I hope it pisses you off too.

professional demographic counters DO NOT COUNT TEXAS as being in 'the south' .

It is a southern state by geography and culture. It was part of the confederacy. It isn't south east, unless you ask the SEC. SEC knows best imo.

That is an enforcement issue, and being surrounded by lots of other gun-toting states means its a lot harder than the UK for instance

It would be the same if 49 states allowed cannabis and one state didn't

That's why I don't like states - it should be one country - one drivers license - there were founding fathers who agreed with me (not on drivers licenses)

If only they would do something about the poverty. Seriously though, it's great that a southern state is doing well, there's hope for us yet!
