Dear vj’s members thanks again for the help in advance. My fiancé (the petitioner) is coming in Bulgaria after 6 days. According to the visajourney timeline we may expect our NOA2 in the end of August. He will stay here for approximately 2 months. What will happen if meanwhile we got RFE (God forsake)? A friend of him is going to check his mailbox everyday so in case we got one we will know. So my questions are as follows:

1. Is there any way in case of RFE to answer from Bulgaria using FedEx or DHL /I have read that usually the RFE is printed on a blue sheet and the adjustors want the RFE to be placed above the response/ so Do we need to have a hard copy of the RFE

2. What is the usual timeframe to answer an RFE ?

3. Also I read that sometimes they request the response to be in some “special” envelope which they provide.

4. And last: is calling NVC and obtaining case number mandatory?

I just want to know what our options are in case we receive RFE as we do not want to slow down the process.

Thank you (F)

I pray that we will never receive RFE but who knows :innocent:

1. Is there any way in case of RFE to answer from Bulgaria using FedEx or DHL /I have read that usually the RFE is printed on a blue sheet and the adjustors want the RFE to be placed above the response/ so Do we need to have a hard copy of the RFE It is best to receive and review the hardcopy RFE for specific information about their request. You will need to follow their instructions/directions explicitly, for obvious reasons.

2. What is the usual timeframe to answer an RFE ? Hard to say, maybe a couple of weeks, maybe a month or more. A lot depends on the nature of the RFE and your ability to promptly and accurately respond to their request. There currently seems to be a general slowdown in processing at the service centers.

3. Also I read that sometimes they request the response to be in some “special” envelope which they provide. It is best to follow their instructions/directions explicitly, again, for obvious reasons.

4. And last: is calling NVC and obtaining case number mandatory? It is not mandatory, it is your petition, you can do as you want. When you contact your interviewing embassy/consulate, they will want to know your case number. The case number is for Department of State (DoS), the receipt number is for Department of Homeland Security, and they are different numbers. DoS should eventually send the petitioner a hardcopy of the case number. However, some folks have said that they never receive such a letter. Hence the Guides advice should be followed.

I just want to know what our options are in case we receive RFE as we do not want to slow down the process. Are you anticipating an RFE? Think positive!

Thank you (F)

Good luck on your visa journey.
